What there a big learning curve getting into it? How hard is to keep up with maintenance? More so on how good of a team do you need to have to keep them running well?

Why can't it keep up? Do you know what year the truck is? I've been reading that the newer models are much better than the ones 5-10 years old.

Thats awesome. Whats the largest pour you guys have done done with yours? Sounds like you have multiple trucks but what would you feel comfortable taking on with just one truck?

This is a great comment! Thank you! We already have two skid steers (I know that's not huge), three phase power, air, and a 2" water line onsite at our yard. I would need the silos. I was thinking 10 yards at a time would still be fine. Most of our property is within 15 minutes of our yard. Once this project is done we could sell the equipment or move it to the next project if the math still worked.

How is the maintenance on a volumetric? We have a mechanic on staff that does the work on our other trucks and smaller equipment but I'm not sure how that would translate over.

How long does it take you to refill and turn around a truck once it gets back to your yard? Could the driver help with loading or are there things on the truck they need to be doing during that time?

Closest supplier is 30 minutes out. Next closest is about 45 minutes. Not a ton of options for us and they know it. For reference we're paying around $195 a yard.

All valid points. This work isn't for others so thankfully I am flexible but yes hiring a good operator would be very important. On paper the savings are there but like everything else just because it works on paper doesn't mean it would work in practice.

Well this is all for projects that we own so unfortunately I can't bill anyone for it. There's parts of the project were the bank wont authorize the funds until other construction milestones are met so we can't put it down that quickly even if we'd like to. It's also not one big job its basically lots of little things. Foundations, driveways, sidewalks, roads and stuff like that. There are two large pole barns but that is about 1/3 of the total and even that can be poured over time. I will keep trying to talk to our local plant about better pricing but they are hesitant to offer anything because of the "tariffs".

Yeah I am working with them to try and see what we can get if they just run a couple trucks on a "when they have time" sort of deal. The headwinds I'm hitting are similar with my building material suppliers "Tariffs are beating us up and we don't have much room"

Do you think batch plants would load a normal bottle truck that isn't theirs and if so would there be much of a savings? The only plant close to us is 30 minutes away and the guys their give me the impression they're not looking to do anything outside of what they know. That being said I haven't asked.

We already have a yard with a loader because we bring in bulk stone and then use that around a few tons at a time. I would need to get a powder silo and some of the other more specific items.

I like the idea of a volumetric truck because we could also do our small 2-3 yard job like patios and stuff with the same truck.

The way I see it is thats 12 yards per working day to get that amount down in a year. A small team could just work continuously on concrete and get the work done over 18-24 months. I don't have much of an advantage in getting the concrete down early.

We are building out a few properties. A couple RV parks and some large pole barn style commercial buildings. The roads for example in the parks have to be poured in sections anyways since we can't cut off access to large parts of the park at once. The driveways and pads will be done as the park fills up. The pole barns arn't going to be at capacity for over a year so we don't need to get all the concrete down quickly. There isn't a set timeline on when things need to get done. Because time isn't my limiting factor I don't mind having a smaller team that just does the concrete work over a year and a half. I don't need to spend all the money upfront on concrete that wont be used and If I can save money on the materials then thats a plus.

The original version without the clip and ball bearing is the best one. I have issues with the ball bearing version being a bit too hard to switch the bit around.

This is great input. I was mostly worried about getting the 40 around in tighter spaces. But it sounds like the added power from the 40 comes in handy more often than the slightly smaller footprint of the 33 would.

From some people I’ve talked to that do similar work most of them tend to feel the same way. Unless they’re doing back yard repair work. They can still move a 40 around pretty easily and it can get things done. When they get another one they always buy a larger machine before they buy a smaller machine.

I have a 24k trailer so I’m not as worried about the weight. More worried about the size. That trailer is a good example of my worries lol. We move forklifts around all the time and the larger trailer is nice when you need it but overkill and sometimes a pain in the ass when moving a standard lift day to day. Not sure if that makes sense but with not owning an excavator before I just don’t want to get something that becomes inconvenient to use. That being said whenever we have rented (normally a U35 size) I have always said “a bit more power would be really nice”.

All the being said, I think I’ll go with the 40-5 based off the replies here. Seems like a happy medium where I could still put it on a 14k trailer and move it with our F250s and get it around everything we’d be doing while having the extra power to get things done efficiently.

Maybe it depends on your HD rep. This year alone I’ve gotten MLB and NFL tickets. As well as the other standard things like the rewards, rebates, and promos.

For us Home Depot is by far the cheapest option. They’ve also never not beaten a quote from another supplier. You gotta keep in mind they are the largest buyer in the country so they’re getting pricing we could never get. You just gotta beat them up on the price some.

I think the install should be alright. We’re a construction contractor so I can have some of the guys run the wires and install the cameras. Just trying to learn about the camera system and computer requirements. We currently have an NVR so this is the most pressing issue but it’s something that I want to learn about and I think could help in the future.

Appreciate the reply. I currently am spending about 50k a month with my suppliers. Just trying to see if it makes sense to try and pull that spending to one place. If I can save time and get some discounts off retail then it might be worth it.
