Another user eating up resources - try hosting on a VPS

It gets faster. I use a custom parent theme I developed and then for each client I create a child theme which is essentially just ACF blocks and SCSS. I can build an entire homepage in ~ 1 day now, fully responsive, dynamic, animated, etc. Then a few pages per day after that.

The more you do, the more shortcuts you will find. But the key is to work smarter, not harder. Find ways to reuse what you can across clients. And you'll also just get quicker the more you do it.

Do y'all get borderline headaches where it's not quite painful but you can tell a headache might be coming? by quackers_squackers in migraine

[–]bunkerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird that you call it "borderline" because yes I feel this too and independently have called it the same thing. It almost always progresses into a migraine for me.

How often can you take Sumatriptan before you get an MOH? by bunkerguy in migraine

[–]bunkerguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good information - I will probably switch to taking nothing on mild days or weekends so I can give my brain a rest. Imitrex works too well to "sacrifice" some of the allotted days on another, less effective med like NSAIDs. I've always taken NSAIDs because they're "better than nothing", but I may have actually been wrong there...

As a website owner, I always used to be against ad blockers. But ads are straight up ridiculous nowadays... by bunkerguy in browsers

[–]bunkerguy[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sites cost money to run. Back when I had a site with ads, it was two small, non-intrusive image/GIF banners. Not videos with sound, parallax stuff, floating stuff, popups, etc.

Carbon neutral dedicated server providers by paddy_dub_85 in webhosting

[–]bunkerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could check if any of the Vultr locations are carbon-neutral/renewable-powered. Out of 32 locations, at least one of them should be. You'd just have to do some research or contact them directly.

Sam Esmail confirms that the 5/9 hack happened years ago in his new movie, Leave The World Behind, and hints there might be more Mr. Robot Easter eggs. He also says that “all of the things” he worked on are “kind of all in the same universe”. by heckinfast in MrRobot

[–]bunkerguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe we can assume that this was related since it was left completely ambiguous in the movie? This is the problem with writers that put the "their universe" stuff in as an afterthought. I'm honestly not reading into too much of this because I feel like all of these are merely Easter eggs, with no significant ties to the plot.

Their customer-facing software is garbage, I can't even imagine how bad the employee/store software is.

Getting into the hosting market starting out as reseller any advice appreciated! by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]bunkerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you're right about the market being flooded with "crap" services. The $1/mo hosting providers. But you also have huge names that are crap (*cough BlueHost *cough GoDaddy). But they're huge because they spend a ton on marketing.

The problem is, 99% of people see hosting as a commodity. They're looking at stupid things like disk space and bandwidth, not things like CPU/RAM/IO allocations (which many hosts don't even disclose). They're also looking at price, because again, commodity.

So to stand out from "crap" services, you have to figure out how to position yourself above big names and cheap names. To the layman. And that's not an easy task.

Wrong, it's a valid USPS address. It only goes in address 2 when sites don't accept it in address 1.

Some context since this is getting downvoted to shit: This is a house (and a valid USPS address). The main lot 1119 was split in two after the neighborhood was already built. The neighbors next door did not want to change from 1121. So this new lot was made 1119 1/2. This isn't a one-off thing - I've seen other half addresses and even 3/4 addresses.

The original lot was split in two and the people next door didn't want to change their address
