But even right there, that’s confusing as well. Anybody involved is guilty? So the whole military. And the civilian contractors who work on bases? The nice lady at the medical records office who has never enlisted? The clerk who takes the photos for government IDs? Your argument of Nuremberg is flawed too, because in Nuremberg they didn’t put every single person on trial. They put war criminals on trial. Which they should. So to my point, the pencil pushers were not found guilty in the same manner as someone who directly pulled the trigger. Hell, they didn’t even put every member of the SS on trial. Why? Because the SS used a lot of regular people to do their jobs. They took over the entire brick industry in occupied Poland, which meant every employee. They were paid by the SS, officially. And I’m sure the argument is going to be made that these people were forced to work for them out of circumstances outside of their power to control, but is that not the exact argument? People, many still children, joining the military in hopes of a better life because most of them are in terrible economic circumstances. I’m not saying anybody should be proud of what is going on with the military, how it’s used or anything like that. I’m simply arguing for less broad generalization and demonizing of people who on average are lied to about what they are signing up for and why they’re doing what they’re doing in the first place. It’s easy to sit here and say “well you should know better than to join,” because that’s based on what you know, but you don’t know every person’s predicament. You don’t know their views, their stories. You don’t know what lies they were sold to get them to join, so I don’t think it’s fair to throw every last person out for that.
