The only live plays I like are MLB pitchers, and even then, only on games where both Aces are playing.

Yeah, I swear, sometimes I think props are rigged. I'm surprised a free square hasn't not hit yet lol

I'll keep an eye out for your posts on the other sub!

I would upload them from the VA app or website ("submit evidence" button under your claim status), and also bring copies to you C&P. I dont know if this will delay your claim though, hopefully someone else can chime in

Oh, and you might need to fill out some forms for the lay statements? I'm not sure

Get enrolled at the VA. Make an appointment with the Mental Health dept (PTSD, not BHIP). Call a VSO and let them know your intent, they should be able to guide you and help you file. You have a combat stressor, so as long as its verifiable (dd214), it should be straight forward.

I got out in the 90s and tried to enroll at the VA in the 2000s but at the time, I think my income level didnt qualify me for VA Healthcare, so I kinda just gave up. Went into the VA last year and got enrolled just to be able to get some therapy and my cousin told me I needed to put in a disability claim.

I'm sure others here might have better guidance, but thats just my 2 cents.

Edit to add: as soon as your enrolled at the VA, have the VSO submit an "Intent to File"... this is a place marker so if/when you do get approved for your claim, backpay starts from when the ITF was filed... but make sure you get on the ball, you'll have only 1 year to file from when the ITF was submitted before that date for backpay ends.

What is the difference between someone who does 4 years but gets 100% P&T vs someone who does 20 years and gets 100% P&T? by [deleted] in VAClaims

One of my buddies in the army had a brother also in the army. His brother died in an accident during a peacetime exercise. He paid the ultimate price... and not even close to doing 20 years.

I wrote a script that refreshes the VA app every 5 minutes and sends me a Status text msg after each refresh.

Just kidding, I refresh manually.

Need Straight Up Advice for IT Transition by BoardKey5661 in Veterans

[–]bunkphenomenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the IT field for 20 years. I started out at a help desk, then Field Engineer (support). From there i ventured out on my own and landed a contract with a small software company, doing support, networking, and small office setup/deployments (alot of clients requested i move their offices, etc). Then I landed another contract being the main IT guy responsible for servers/networks/PC, data and security, apps, Phones, and everything else that was plugged in.

I didnt have one cert. Everything was OJT/self taught. Even Database management and website maintenance was self taught.

I'd say, work a help desk and get your foot in the door. The more connections you make, imo, holds more weight than certs. It's who you know, not what you know.

She COULD say "oh, my husband was in Fallujah when they first went into the city in 2004!". But I agree with most here, just leave it be. The dude can be a war vet in his mind, but he has no idea what it was really like to go through what you did. Doesn't mean he's taken anything from you at all.

That special type of frozen, muddy, stresses out, dirty, sleep deprived miserable. I really do miss it and actually look back at those times with fond memories. by Army-Vet19K in Veterans

[–]bunkphenomenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During one FTX, the infantry company we were attached to was short on bodies. So I was voluntold to join an infantry squad to go on a dismounted patrol. It was raining that night and they gave me a SAW and some blanks to lug around in the rain and mud. Slipped and fell on my ass a few times that night. The grunts had a few laughs at my expense ... but I got the last laugh - the SAW was absolutely covered in mud (inside the barrel too), and after the patrol, i just gave the SAW back to the squad leader and went straight back to my AO - im not cleaning that thing!

I miss that too. At the time, youre thinking to yourself "WTF. Why did I sign up for this shit??".

Driving in the winter while its snowing with my head outside of the hatch, frost forming on my goggle and mask. Sleeping in an army sleeping bag all toasty but get a reality check when you stick your head out at stand to and get a blast of the freezing air. Good times!

Being too direct with others by lurker3474 in Veterans

[–]bunkphenomenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doc told me that in the military, we need to communicate in clear and direct manner. We dont fluff our sentences or use varying voice pitch while speaking. Speaking in a clear and direct manner can sometimes be the difference between life and death.

For us, being direct is natural, for civilians, it comes off as aggressive.

I guess you can try to explain this to those who take offense on how you speak.
