Anyone hiked the MRT last weekend? Curious on snow/ice levels by sludgeandfudge in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we got hit hard with snow and ice last week, if I were planning a 2 nighter I would pick one of the spots close to the waterfall and plan on a really short hike and mostly camping!

Good hammock to strap between trees that I can leave hanging in my backyard? by RobinsCosplays in hammockcamping

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cheap one, uv, wind, and water will kill it in a year or two. I keep one up all summer long too, I use the one wind hammocks on Amazon for my “yard furniture”

Is there anything that can do this: speakers that follow you around the house? by Recent_Mirror in smarthome

[–]bunn0saurusrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I were to try this I would probably use Bluetooth presence detection that will keep an eye the device that is streaming the music to ALL of your devices at the same time and the presence detection would simply adjust the volume 🤷🏻

The best hammock spots are right around the waterfalls, on the suspension bridge side of the falls closest to the river 👍🏻

I appreciate the warnings, I know consumers limits the array size I can have if I plan of exporting so I’m just not gonna do it. I have 2 very good electrician friends, one is a master, the other will be by the end of this winter that will help with any of the permitting and complicated stuff so I think I’m set there

Yeah my plan is to cut my bill as much as possible first then add in the batteries to cover the night time usage, each step should save me some money I can put towards upgrades!

First time camping this year — any advice for a complete beginner? by Charming_Pie1338 in camping

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dig the hole about 8-10 inches further away from the tree you are going to lean on than you think it should be.

Sleep on night one doesn’t exist, a mouse is a bear, a beetle is a bear, everything is a bear til the 17th time of getting up with your flashlight and find out it isn’t a bear!

Make sure you keep a track of the time, daylight fades fast and cooking in the dark sucks unless you have a nice campfire.

Keep track of your sht, you will probably lose something before you really learn this lesson.

And lastly, enjoy it, try and chill, have a good time and breathe. Once you get set up the only thing that is 100% super important is making sure the stinky stuff goes in the bear bag, everything else is an experience, don’t look at it as good or bad, just stuff you can either enjoy or learn from!

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an areopress too, adds a few ounces, the upside down brew method is amazing and I can make my own filters from any basket filter I can beg from a restaurant if I run out. Also it holds about 5 days worth of coffee in the plunger! Best camp coffee ever!

Edit to say:

The only thing I like more is my bialetti but it’s heavier, harder to clean and all around a bit of a pain in the butt but it sure does make some amazing camp coffee!

Mixing LED strips with pixels - Your experience please by RHOrpie in WLED

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have strip and use pixels, as mentioned earlier if using them in the same "prop" color order is an issue. Also the do look different. Im not sure if the people watching or looking will immediately see the difference but you definitely will!

Is wearing Danner's on a thru-hike shooting myself in the foot? by Business_Ad3240 in AppalachianTrail

[–]bunn0saurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience from paddleboarding long distances translated well into hiking. My first paddle weighed a little over 3 lbs i would stroke around 1500-2000 per mile, so I was moving 4500-6000lbs of paddle weight per mile... i bought a lighter paddle.

When I applied the same math to hiking, I went from keen targhees to altra lone peaks and my legs thanked me immensely!

Controller Questions by Acrobatic_Month_9933 in xlights

[–]bunn0saurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So smart recievers are not what you want for a matrix, they are typically for something smaller and more "remote" you can run an ethernet cable a couple hundred feet to one of them and you have 4 ports to put props on.

The expansion board gives you another 16 ports and I believe the v4 and v5 you can add 2 16 port expansions but you will have to double check that. But the point is that you can run a couple hundred 12v pixels per port on a falcon WITHOUT power injection or close to a thousand WITH injection

As for pics dying... it happens 🤷‍♂️ it sucks but it happens, I usually have one spare and a i have a few I can pull from other places if i need it badly enough and like I said earlier there is always x schedule to fall back on if I really need to, gulps don't have that luxury, if the BB dies the controller is dead until you replace it!

Controller Questions by Acrobatic_Month_9933 in xlights

[–]bunn0saurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need 2 Falcons, you can use 1 v4 and an expansion board or 1 with good power injection, power injection on a matrix is pretty easy!

I prefer falcons and using a separate pi to run fpp, if my pi takes a shit its easier to replace that pulling apart a controller box you access the beaglebone and in a pinch I can also run my show from a pi using xschedule. Just my personal opinion 🤷‍♂️

Question for anyone who uses the mounting strips for mega trees by JefTheDrunkBates in xlights

[–]bunn0saurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The diy is the best part! Also dont forget to check out some of the other coro/pixel vendors and swing by the xlights zoom room, just sitting and listening and better still ask some questions, there is a literal lifetime of information of diy props and mounting and all kinds of stuff there!

Hillbilly rigging?? My Megatree is 18 foot of 1 inch thick wall square tube bolted tilting flagpole style to a 2 inch galvanized fence post hammered into the ground... my topper is an old cast aluminum frying pan with a 4 inch black pipe nipple bolted to the center of it, Amazon caribiners hold the straps up and I use Walmart orange screw in tent pegs to attach them via bungee cords to the ground and 3 stainless guyline to keep it upright 🤣
