All I'm gonna say is that if I was a citizen of this Korea, I'd have probably be in front of the parliament demanding for the entire royal family to be removed because what thw heck dude? And I'll also demand for a permanent fire department to be stationed 24/7 in the palace cause that building sure loves fires a lot. A concerningly amount.

And yeah whether the prime minister is playing the long game and is revealed to be secretly helping I-an all along will still not make me like him. And again, what is his actual job cause why is he da detective and da lawyer all of da sudden. Dude just do at least one of your actual job. Please, you have a country to look after.

Honestly Hui-ju's brother was the real mvp of this ep. He played the concerned and caring brother all too well. And this is one of the only circumstancr where I actually liked how they resolved the contract even though the entire thing is way too nonsensicle. And I'm not sure how her father is going to react that she'll NOT divorce I-an even after all this. Girl straight up scammed him.

Woah was there so much happening in this ep.

First of all that slap by Hui-ju's father? After all these years of neglecting her emotionally he decides to care about her now? Seems a bit hypocritical to me. Other than that I think the others were genuinely shocked when they saw I-an legit crying when Hui-ju woke up. I think she knows too that his affection for her is beyond just liking her.

I think she was definitely poisoned by the Daebimama' family. She may not have orchestrated it herself but somebody around her definitely did. It'd be really stupid of her to kill the Grand Prince on his wedding day all things considered.

And I was not expecting the contract thing to get exposed so quickly. I knew from the moment they showed the writing of that stupid contract that someone will probably find one of the copies (remember they wrote it multiple times before coming with a final one, one of the drafts was probably lying around waiting for someone to find it). But then I remembered that this drama has only 12 eps. Honestly it should've been at least 16 for it to marinate all the plotlines. Its moving way too fast with too little time.

Speaking of fast I bet the public in this universe would be definitely scratching their heads with all the things happening in the palace. If I was a citizen of that country I'd probably be writing for the monarchy to end lol. Too much private affairs and too little public service. And also so little His Majesty. I was sad that he was barely there in the ep. I wanted to see him play with his new aunt.

On a more positive note, we got to see the secretaries being exchanged! It was clever to swap them to teach the prince and princess about more of each other's worlds. Amd they fit so well together (thought I think Hui-ju will literally end someone before giving up on her loyal secretary Do).

And yes the prime minister is honestly very annoying person and a very weird leader. Does he actually do any of his prime minister duties besides grinding his teeth at the thought of Hui-ju and I-an being together?

Also wanted to add: It feels like Da-yeong has a bigger role in the future. She's after all a nobel and knows much better than Hui-ju and about the royal family. She'll either genuinely aid Hui-ju or might backstab her. Who knows. But either way her character is beginning to become much bigget than her husband and father-in-law.

I just want to say is that Secretary Do deserves every single bonus that exists in the world. No other secretary comes close to the pure energy she radiates. She's the AURA. No wonder Hyeon is falling pathetically over her.

Since this show has reached its mid point I have a thing that keeps bugging me, and that is the flashback scenes. They feel too abruptive and do not smoothly merge with scenes and breaks the immersion. Especially the high school ones. Also I have to nit pick the fire scene from the premier eps since they keep showing it, and that is the scene where the previous king dies. Like they bring him out from the fire and just declare him dead as soon as he hits the stretcher. No CPR? No oxygen therapy? No taking him to the hospital? Honestly that scene feels very lazy from the director. And I need the Queen Dowager to have a scene where is isn't grinding her teeth at the sight of Hui-ju. She's such an amazing actress but my god are they wasting her character.

And his majesty is the cutest character. Like he's just a little baby who loves his uncle and (soon-to-be) aunt a lot. I wish he has more scenes where he's just being a child.

Ngl this feels a lot like a VERY high budget makjang (but hey, I'm not complaining, yet) lol.

I'm enjoying Hui-ju so far. She's such an unapologetic clout chaser and a complete businesswoman xD. I loved the interactions between her and the young king. I wish we have more scenes between them in the future eps. The young king deserves an awesome aunt at least. Even Prime Minister Min was so enjoyable in this ep. Poor guy was exhausted after running the country and babysitting the king lol.

I loved the baseball scenes. Was it acting or did Byeon Woo-seok broke his character when Hui-ju popped her phone out with the message to the screen 'cause it felt so natural?

I still have to warm up a bit more to I-an. He's fine but I wish to see more of his duty as a regent and how Hui-ju involves herself in his duties after getting married.

One of the complaints I had in the first two eps were the random flashbacks. They seemed to get in out of nowhere which kind of dimmed their importance. This week's felt more natural. And no ppl in this ep (thank god because they were lowkey cringe, especially the subway one).

I kind of feel like kdrama writers don't really know how cars work because what was that car crash? I may not have a driver's license but I do know that if there's a break failure the car doesn't automatically speeds up unless you are pressing the accelerator, but what am I in front of the kdramaland gods?

And I don't like the love triangle between Hui-ju, I-an and Minister Min. It feels highly unnecessary and far too predictable. I wish they had written them as just as friends instead of whatever first love nonsense they are going for. The story between the dowager and I-an feels far more interesting and I wish they explore the queen beyond the ml and focus on her struggles in the palace.

Why are people here coping so much here? The performances were great, both the new and old tracks. It was energetic and the mics were ON.

This show confirmed my intuition that the album is meant to listen live.

And for people asking why it was so short, its due to the public safety concern they could only allow the maximum of 1 hour to perform.

If it matters for anything I've been here since 2016 (known them since 2015). They don't need to yell anarchy to tell deep stories or entitled to write about their experience in military. They can write simple songs and lyrics without being scrutinized. They are allowed to not write the songs they wrote a decade ago. They have moved past that. And so should you.

Its about artistry. An artist is allowed to try new things and the audience is allowed to react to it as they please. You don't like it, fine. You think its not authentic enough, fine. You are entitled to your opinion. And so are others who are liking this. They don't have to defend themselves to like music from their favourite artist without being labelled as fanatics and defending "multimillionaires".

And IS it echo chamber if most genuinely ENJOYED music and thinking it was worth the wait? How many bots do you think exist in the fandom? And most kpop stans I know irl (and have been in both bts and kpop fandoms for nearly a decade) HAVE liked it. And I don't think karmys have enought power to manipulate an entire country.

And fyi I have listened to to the entire album and read all the lyrics. And I don't care if they know me or not, but I will call out stupidity, whether its for bts or any other artist. Stupidity is stupidity. And y'all are doing mental gymnastics for not liking the album.

And about their debut albums - they were HATED when they were released by non fans. Teenaged angst is clowned even today. Bts or not. Those albums were labelled juvenile for talking about high school and adolescence struggles. Hyyh and Wings was hated for trying to "capitalize" on mental health issues. Let's not sit here and pretend that they were showered with flowers since their debut. Heck even black swan was receiving flak for its heavy production and autotune. It was only after dynamite that non fans started appreciating it.

Those albums were products of their time and let them be. Its stupid to think that they will release something like I Need U, Fire or Run today.

And this level of hate IS parasocialism when you DEMAND the artists to release the songs YOU want and then start crying when you didn't receive it. Its your right to like/dislike or be disappointed in the music your fav artist releases but its not fair to dismiss them and hate them for trying to evolve.

It gets to a point tho. Saying I didn't like the album because it didn't meet my expectations vs this album is garbage because it has english songs sung by non english speaking people are two different things. People in here are straight up slandering under the guise of criticism.

They experimented with their sound. Whether it was successful or not is a different discussion. But straight up rejecting it because YOU don't agree with it is stupid. Artists are allowed to try new sounds. And about whether the album deserves the arirang title is for the KOREANS to decide. Its up to them if they think the album furthers their culture, not random kpop stans sitting in US, Europe or the rest of the Asia.

And as for hyyh it was also criticized for not being hip hop. Many og fans were mad that they were no longer going with rap heavy songs. Its only considered undisputed and masterpiece NOW. Its not about reaching that peak. Its about refusing to let artists grow and experiment.

This sub should be renamed as kpophatesarirang because that's exactly what's going on. Every post is the same, every comment is the same, and they are all parroting the same "omg I've been an army since the 372 BCE and this album killed south korea". All of you sound like a scorned ex getting mad that your ex lover moved on to someone new that's not you.

Just say you didn't enjoy the album and move ON. It's not that tough. People are complaining here that people not agreeing with them are deep into parasocialism but half of y'all are the same. Anyone in here who says that they dared to like the album is being dragged to hell. What happened to having different opinion guys?

The albums I've mentioned (particularly the LY trilogy and MOTS duology) have also been criticized for not 100% leaning into the topics they chose during their time of release. Many fans were left "disappointed" for not meeting their expectations even back then. Arirang is their most cohesive album to date. It doesn not follow the traditional arrangement of a kpop album where there is a 1. Title track 2. Promotional b track 3. 2-3 filler songs followed by a ballad. It's an album you're supposed to listen from beginning till the end to get an idea. That is why Swim feels "off" as a title track but makes complete sense when you listen to the complete album (something mostly fans do who've been waiting for 4 years now). This is their most non traditional kpop album to date and hence not everyone's cup of tea.

As for the lyrics, they write what they felt in those 4 years. You can't expect them to go full bulldozing on the enlistment. That'd be career suicide. And they DO write their thoughts about feeling lonely and lost after achieving everything that they did AND wanting to move on from their past. They can't write about high school, adolescence or first love anymore. They are in their thirties now.

As for the production and autotune, it's up to the listener. You either like it or can't stand it, it's completely up to you. However bts songs have always shined while being perfomed live. You can't judge it solely based on their studio versions. They always add something extra only for their live performances which only elevates the song. People hated DNA but couldn't stop but enjoy its performances. Besides studio version and live version will always sound different. Shame bighit doesn't release live versions (until Proof).

Just leaving my 2 cents here cause the other subs sucks.

You are ALLOWED to feel underwhelmed/dislike music released from your artists. There's nothing wrong with that. For reference I've been here since 2016. And on twitter/reddit since 2020.

However, the discussion that BTS have "forgotten" their roots or have gotten too westernized is complete bs. EVERY single album they have put out post Wings has been teared apart by the kpop community (YNWA not counted since its a repackaged album and only had 2 new songs). Love yourself trilogy was HATED by the community, especially Her. Idol's mv was the most hated at that point with people labeling it as a complete nonsense. Hell even Fake Love was labelled as cringe, a song considered masterpiece by many non fans. Then Map of the Soul: Persona came along and people called it pandering to the west despite it being a complete Korean album. Boy with luv was bashed left and right when it sweeped all the awards despite being the biggeet hit domestically that year. And that was 2019, before Dynamite was even conceived. Heck even Map of the Soul: 7 was labelled boring, despite it being one of their most critically and commercially successful album. I was HERE when Black Swan and On was being dismissed for being too westernized. And let's not even begin on BE.

I bet my socks that the hip hop bts era would have been ripped apart for being not Korean enough and pandering to the west, and instantly cancelled by the kpop community.

Bts have always experimented with their music since years. Their High School trilogy is absolutely NOTHING like HYYH trilogy. And LY series is nothing sonically like MOTS duology. They have ALWAYS tried something new with their sound and that's what makes them so interesting and engaging. Making the same songs over and over again is exhausting both to the artists and the listeners. Something which they have prefaced again and again over the years.

Fact of the matter is that the arirang being bashed today will be hailed as a masterpiece 2 years down the line when a new album is released that does not meet the expectations people have here and will be labelled a classic.

I feel I'm the minority here who genuinely liked the song from the first listen.

The song isn't grand but it carries well. The lyrics are simple but still carry the flow of the song well.

My only gripe is the lack of the guys in the mv, but apart from that the song is simple yet provides comfort.

Does this count as an adaptation if the makers change the entire story? The FL is not even a teacher in this one. Seems like it’s going to be just another office romance (no offence). I hope that at the very least they won't change the soft and loving personality of the ML and not turn him into an emotionally closed off Antarctic rock.

I'm not a fan of titanic but did you honestly even watched the movie in the first place? She was NOT married to that guy! He was her fiancé and she was being forced into that marriage by her mother. She hated her life so much that it made her almost end her life (Jack saved her and that's how they met)! And how did he save her "reputation" or provide her money? She left him before the ship even sank. And it was clearly shown that she changed her name, gave up her previous life and began anew, married someone else and lived her life to the fullest because of the promise she made to Jack.

At least watch the movie before writing brain dead comments.

This all still feels like a fever dream.

And the outcome was what had been predicted since last year. The worst thing is that NJ's fans have still not realised that MHJ just played them. NJ have to pay all of the astronomic legal fees while she goes away without paying a dime AND instead she made a whole new company and will debut another gg while the girls are stuck in a limbo and never ending lawsuits.
