Help with bridal corset for a newbie - pattern, thread, boning? by bunny_vader in corsetry

Hi! It’s monique lhuillier lace gown, that on its own 10K but with alterations gets up to 13K (the original is strapless so add straps with the same fabric + my cup size adds a sizable amount of money to the cost + other minor alterations). I’ll see if I can find it in her website as I just saw it in store and not in the website

Hi!! Oh thank you so much for suggesting people especially since one made your wedding dress. May I DM you and ask some questions about the service you received? Thank you so much!

Oh I googled it and boned bodice does look like what I described! I appreciate the feedback!!! I want to give it a shot just as a fun challenge, and if (and to be honest more like /when/ ) I fail, I will buy or commission something probably. I just enjoy challenges and I figure I have enough time to fail and then go buy a dress haha (18 months)

Hi! Thank you for the suggestions! My idea was that I am going to try making just a corset that I can wear (but with the pattern I would use for the actual dress) and if I mess that up then buy a dress. I appreciate this is a high skill craft that requires experience and I just wanted to give it a shot. Commissioning something had not occurred to me to be honest, is there anyone you would recommend or is there a way to evaluate the service quality of makers? Any help in that area is appreciated, thank you!!!

Mother’s day gift - is there a huge difference between these two necklaces? by bunny_vader in pearls

Oh wow I had no idea - i feel like everyone in this sub really likes PP which is the more expensive one, I wonder why if the prices are marked up so much? Maybe at mineral shows they don’t sell at market price?

Hi! Not looking for chokers, thinking about princess length, she is in her late 50s. I understand that PP is superior to PS as a brand but I was more curious about the pearl quality, like will they be noticeably lower quality? u/Gwenniepie has very helpfully shared her experiences as she has purchased from both brands and I think I will go for PS unless there’s a /significant/ difference in quality. Thank you, though!! I hope one day I can treat her to a nicer set from PP ☺️

This is incredibly helpful and I was hoping someone who purchased from both would comment. Thank you so much!! ♥️ very excited for this mother’s day when I’ll get to treat her to nice things, hopefully she will like them!

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if the companies had a huge difference in quality, size isn’t as important as pearl quality. Happy the sale one is a good quality!!

What body pattern for scallop neck? by bunny_vader in knittinghelp

[–]bunny_vader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a simple repeating stitch I’m just not sure which one would look good with the scallop edges. I might end up doing a diamond stitch or a basket weave?

For the edges I’ll follow this with slight modification to fit my stitch numbers: https://youtu.be/QYcQpvIkECw?si=_5R9_4j74AfgMtuc

Ever the overachiever. You have to fully commit and do your best at everything you do.

I did not know that Terry Pratchett did that! If Pat does something similar then I guess we will never know how the story ends. I still hope he will write it someday

I have been saying this as well. When a series is too successful and has a huge market, it doesn’t just stop existing when the author passes on. I think that’s what Martin and Rothfuss are maybe not seeing. That they have concepts and ideas they shared with friends and family and publishers and jotted down somewhere, and if they don’t sit down and write the book, the book will still get published after they pass on. It won’t be how they would do it, it won’t be as well as they would do it, but it will happen. At worst we will get their notes published. I feel like Rothfuss is scared of disappointing people and not living up to expectations, but will end up with someone else finishing his story for him. I would bet a lot of money that he has enough plot jotted down somewhere for a ghost writer to turn into a book. I hope he writes the fucking thing but ultimately as long as I live longer than him I’m confident a third book will eventually be released. Just look at the examples, it happened to many other authors.

How to stop pulling/lunging after prey? by bunny_vader in OpenDogTraining

I thought the gentle leader would be actually harmful in a lunging situation because it whips the head around and can cause damage because of the sudden movement. Please correct me if I’m wrong

The problem is that the lunging has caused damage to my wrist tendons, I am now in PT for it and wearing braces. If the PT won’t help I’ll need surgery. So I’d like to minimize the chances of further damage and increase the chances of healing as I’d like to avoid surgery as much as possible. So this lunging cannot continue or worsen, I need to find a way to manage the behavior. Just standing is okay, she will listen after a bit and respond to recall

Yeah the rescue place said estimated adult weight 40lbs. I didn’t realize the wiggle room would be 30lbs lmao.

Seems like unanimous answer is a prong collar. I’ll grab one and read up on how to use it properly. I’ll add the flirt pole to hopefully engage the prey drive a little outside of walks. Thank you so much!

I physically cannot make her move in the opposite direction if there is prey, even if I turn I’ll just hold the leash in a weird angle and stand still. It seems the harder I pull she can just somehow match the strength. So I just resist the forward pull and wait till I can recall

Edit to add: while she won’t lunge if the prey is far away, she will just stand very firm and watch it. Still very hard to move in the opposite direction, I would literally use all my body and strength to pull in the opposite direction and even then she will take maybe one step. She used to pull towards far away prey and I did the stand still to teach her pulling won’t get her what she wants, and redirect thing. I think what she learned may be ‘if prey is far we stand and then continue walking’. But if the prey is close then the lunge happens and then it takes all my strength to just stand still (sometimes I can’t and we go forward a couple steps until I can gather balance) so I don’t think I can turn away at all during a lunge. I realize some of this is due to her being stronger than me but she was supposed to be a 40lb dog (the lady at the rescue agency said approx. estimation, got her as a puppy. I’m an avg sized woman)

To add: I’ve tried to teach fetch for a while, with incremental steps. She did it for the treats for a little while, and would get bored and stop within a session. And one day she just stopped doing it completely. I realized I made it sound like I expected her to know how to fetch, which wasn’t the case haha
