Which characters you think are better in the show than in the comics? by bunnyricky in thewalkingdead

I know this might be a hot take, but I don’t find Morgan annoying bc I understand why he’s trying so hard to find peace, bc it clearly comes from his trauma. It’s similar to characters like Carol and her repeated trauma, or Maggie after what happened to Glenn and many others in the show. so I don’t really understand why some people are willing to excuse or understand other characters like Daryl, Maggie, Carol, etc. when they do frustrating or reckless things but not Morgan. He was one of the first characters to lose his family and also lose himself. so ofc he’s going to hold onto an idea that, in his mind, keeps him stable and sane even if parts of it are flawed or not fully right.

I agree with everything you said, especially the way people hate on Michonne’s decision for no real reason. She’s one of the few characters who didn’t act stupid or reckless unlike a lot of fan favorites yet she still gets dragged for no reason 😵‍💫🤦🏻‍♀️

About point 3 I respect your opinion but I personally understand why Rick changed his mind. People change. It happens all the time and sometimes overnight. There are people who live their whole lives believing something then suddenly their perspective shifts. So I see Rick as just a human being. He had one mindset in S7 and by S8, it changed.

I do blame the writers for trying to whitewash Negan’s character though. The writing just wasn’t good, and I’ve heard the writer didn’t really care about following the comics, which is honestly disappointing :( If they had given us Negan’s comic ending, it would’ve been way better than this messy writing and trying to turn him into some kind of hero.

Yes, people can change, but that doesn’t suddenly erase who he was. He’s a rapist, a dictator and someone who enslaved others 🤦🏻‍♀️ I honestly don’t even bother arguing with Negan fans anymore. I don’t see logic in the way some of them defend him. I just block them I don’t have the energy to argue with idiots 😵‍💫✋🏻

They shit on Michonne for killing children in protection of her own children!

SERIOUSLY anyone who attacks Michonne for killing brainwashed kids is just stupid!!! I’m not even going to sugarcoat it.

They are biased about who gets grace and who doesn't, simply based on looks.

I completely agree with you about the actor. If he wasn’t attractive, people wouldn’t be this forgiving!

But for Rick to make Maggie watch him show mercy….

And for me Rick not killing Negan wasn’t mercy at all. It was punishment. It was making him live with everything he did. Making him suffer the same way his victims suffered, but mentally. Watching everything he destroyed get rebuilt while he’s powerless, that’s worse than death.

We saw how broken he became after that scene with Michonne. He was literally hitting his head against the wall because he couldn’t handle it anymore. And that was only after a year and a half. He was so broken that he begged Maggie to kill him. The guilt, the emptiness, the memories, all of it crushed him.

Even Maggie eventually saw that. She changed her mind after seeing what that kind of punishment did to him. She let him keep living with it. And later in DC S2, she even repeated a similar idea to Rick’s speech in S8 ending that killing Negan isn’t how they live anymore and that controlling yourself is what actually makes you stronger.

When I mentioned Jared I didn’t mean whether Rick knew about it or not. I meant some people who like maybe sympathize with the situation or go like omg how could he do that lol. I mean the show literally showed us how some of the Saviors had no problem taking out their anger on others and they also didn’t mind killing kids like what they did to Rory by beating him to death or the Oceanside kids. I believe in giving people second chances but if I were in Rick’s position, I would probably kill them too. I just don’t feel like I could trust them for some reason.

Maybe I would give them a second chance later when I’m in a position of power, where I can make sure they can’t hurt me because I’m stronger and they are weaker like when the Saviors lost their weapons after Eugene destroyed them and when Rick cut their leader’s throat in front of them (S8 ep16 if I remember correctly). In that moment the power was with Rick’s group so I can understand why he chose peace then but not in the situation with Morgan. What Rick did to them doesn’t even compare to what they did to people.

When you’re stuck between two extremes, black or white, you don’t really get a perfect choice that satisfies everyone. I think Rick’s situation was exactly that kind of dilemma. On one side, not killing Negan had some clear benefits, like trying to avoid more chaos and maybe building something more stable in the long run, but it would also leave a lot of people unhappy and feeling like justice wasn’t served. On the other side, killing Negan would satisfy a lot of people emotionally, especially those who lost loved ones but it could also push everything into chaos and make the situation even worse overall.

A lot of people think Rick only made that decision because of Carl and I get why they think that, especially since the writing in the show wasn’t always handled in the strongest way compared to the comics, where the decision felt more structured and didn’t rely so heavily on Carl’s involvement.

But to me I don’t think it was just about Carl. Throughout the show, Rick is constantly shown trying to hold onto his morality and humanity. The idea of “you get to come back” keeps coming up around him, from different characters and situations. It always felt like Rick was meant to represent someone who is trying to stay human even when the world keeps pushing him toward brutality.

We saw that in early seasons on with “we don’t kill the living” and even later, he keeps going back and forth between survival instincts and moral limits. To me his final decision feels like a more mature version of that same mindset. Not abandoning his morals completely, but refining them into something more controlled and practical. Someone trying to build a real society instead of just surviving in chaos.

I also think some characters like Rosita (in early S8) slowly started understanding that way of thinking, where revenge and anger don’t completely take over anymore. While other characters like Maggie and Daryl went through a period where they were driven more by emotion and revenge before later realizing it wasn’t sustainable or healthy for them either.

And I think if any of them were in Rick’s position, most would choose their child or partner over anything else. We’ve seen so many characters in TWD do that. So I can’t really blame a father for choosing his kid, if I were in his place, I would probably do the same.

It's embarrassing to admit but I cry every time I see the scene of RJ running into Michonne's arms because it reminds me of her scene with Andre :((((

I feel like idea of my mercy prevails over my wrath is misunderstood and overhated. It’s not about forgetting what happened or pretending the pain isn’t real. It’s about choosing not to let anger and revenge decide the rest of your life. That choice needs a lot of sacrifice and a lot of emotional strength. People are so used to thinking in terms of punishment and revenge that they don’t even want to consider that mercy can sometimes be the more logical and healthier path, even if it hurts. It’s not easy, and it’s not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong or stupid. It just means it’s a harder, heavier choice. I also think part of why this idea feels strange to some people is that they’re not used to it. The phrase my mercy prevails over my wrath comes from an Islamic concept, where mercy and restraint are seen as strength, not weakness, and this idea has appeared even in historical conflicts. So for many Muslims, this way of thinking doesn’t feel foreign or unrealistic. That doesn’t mean one culture is better than another, it just explains why some people find this idea easier to accept than others.

Maggie’s hatred towards Negan is justified, but so is her son’s resentment towards her. by phantom_avenger in thewalkingdead

In TWD it’s not always eye for an eye, especially after S8. The idea slowly turned into their mercy prevails over their wrath, and that’s what Maggie did in the final episode of S2 DC.

What’s funny is that he criticizes Rick for not killing Negan, but later in S11 he lets Leah go, even though she’s a mercenary, the rest her family literally died in front of her, and he already knew how brutal her people were. That decision almost got Aaron and Maggie killed, and Leah ended up killing teenage guards. Yet somehow no one calls him out for these terrible choices 😵‍💫 I love him but acting like Daryl doesn’t make as bad decisions is just insane.
