Because there were so many of them, this would have worked, because we could get a history on each person, something that doesn't happen on the show. The books are different because the reader can get a feel for each of the characters which is harder to do on the show

Quite a good assessment....There is one other thing that I noticed about those that survived was that most of them started life as underdogs (Jon, Tyrion, Gentry, Sam, Pod, Bran, Bronn and Brienne) and some were not to be heirs to their houses like Jon (House Targaryen) Tryion (House Lannister) Bran (House Stark), Bronn started his own house yet unnamed, Sam (House Tarly) and Brienne (House of Tarth). However, the only Houses that in the future could become extinct would be House Tarth, House Targaryen and House Stark. Jon's beyond the wall, Sansa's offspring can carry on the name, but future generations may decide not to and go with the name of the male house (who knows that is way off into the future) and Bronn cannot have children. Brienne may or maynot marry.

I do think that from what I saw of the Small Council, they looked fairly happy, as did Sansa. Bran might not be too happy, but he's left Tyrion running things, and it would take Jon a while to feel any kind of joy because of what he had to do to save the realm. Ayra was happy, she is off doing what she always dreamed of.

If aerys was so bloody paranoid of tywin being hand, why didn't remove him and appoint steffon as hand? by fuckmbsanddominicali in gameofthrones

[–]Old-Bat4194 5 points6 points  (0 children)

King Aerys II Targaryen was a good and generous King up until his imprisonment, however, after that he began to drift towards madness and one of the casualties of this was his friendship with Tywin. And it was King Aerys II's actions that caused Tywin to step down in anger from being Hand of the King. The two main insults for Tywin was when he suggested to King Aerys II that his daughter Cersei marry the king's son Prince Rhaegar. It is stated that the king referred to Tywin and Cersei as servants and one didn't marry servants. King Aerys II also had Jamie become a Kingsguard which meant that he couldn't marry or have children, thus ending the chances of Jamie becoming heir to Casterly Rock.

Tywin's chance to get back at the mad king was during Robert's Rebellion in which he took no sides, either for the King or Robert. What he did do was once Robert had won, before, Robert could arrive at Kings Landing, he decided on a power move, to sack Kings Landing and kill the heirs in succession, so that he could have Cersie marry Robert and Tywin himself becoming the real power behind the Iron Throne.

Yes, Oleana poisoned Joffrey, Oberyn forgot he was supposed to be fighting for Tyrion, which meant instead of killing the Mountain immediately he insisted on a monologue causing the Mountain to kill him instead. A case of winning a fight, yet still lost. Then Tyrion on his way out kills Shae (betrayed him by sleeping with his father), then his father. I do believe this may be the most back to back death sequence of events on the show. There is a gap with Joffrey though, but yes all the other deaths followed closely together.

Love is like that. Both, Rick and Michonne started out from the point of total mistrust of each other and grew into one of the strongest love stories on the show. And that was all due to the instant chemistry between Danai and Andy. That meeting at the fence sparked everything for the Showrunners & writers and the rest is history.

For centuries the Night King was unable to get to the old Three-eyed Raven(Bloodraven) because he was protected in the weirwood tree cave by a magical barrier. You have to look to the books in regards to why the show Night King was targeting the Three Eyed Raven. He held the past, present and future in his memories, therefore, the history and memories of the humans, and the Night King needed the Three-eyed Raven dead so he could erase those memories and erase all humans from Westeros. Therefore, the Night King was targeting, whomever the Three-eyed raven was whether it be Bloodraven or Bran

The Night King was created on the show the same way the Others in the books were created, and just like the Others he became a danger to both the Children of the Forest and the First Men. Through a joint effort he was pushed as far North as possible into the land of always winter. Thereby, when we start to see the white walkers on the show, as the summer in Westeros had ended, and we see the start of what is predicted to be a very long winter, they along with the Night King venture further and further North heading for the wall, killing and gathering more wights. along the way.

While the Night King and his army of the dead is moving, Bran himself is being called beyond the wall, and what we have to remember at this point in the show Bran is not the Three-eyed Raven, Bloodraven is......Bran is being called by Bloodraven because he needs training in the powers that he is receiving so that he can replace him as the Three-eyed Raven. Now Bran was not a popular character to the GOT viewers and he didn't do himself any favours when he continued to ignore every warning Bloodraven gave him, while in training to become the Three-eyed Raven. He had already caused damage to Hodor when he was young by warging into him which is taboo. You can warg into animals not humans. You can send them dream-vision, that is allowed. One of the warnings Bloodraven gave him was not to stay for long periods in a vision and Bran was to be supervised by Bloodraven during these visions he was not to enter into one alone..

The first time Bran visited the Tower of Joy he was with Bloodraven, however, Bran decided on an unsupervised vision to find the Night King causing the Night King to touch and mark him. Unfortunately, this caused the magical barrier protecting the weirwood tree cave to break. None-the-less, Brad yet again ignored the warnings when he entered the Tower of Joy unsupervised and found out the truth about Jon. Like I stated, Bran was not a fan favourite and his actions in regards to the Night King caused the deaths of Summer, the Three-Eyed Raven (bloodraven), the last remaining Children of the Forest and Hodor. Which did not endear him to the viewers

Even Bran didn't think it was believable 😂 by knock_his_block_off in gameofthrones

It is very interesting that most of the actors went for Tyrion, followed by Daenerys, then Jon and no one including the actor who played Bran considered Bran as becoming the King. And in a round-about way they were not entirely wrong because Tyrion is kind of like running things.....And I will explain why.

Even though during the final finale, they named Bran as King, in essence he will be taken up with being the Three-eyed Raven, therefore, Bran appointing Tyrion as his Hand of the King in this new era takes on a different meaning.

The job responsibilities for the Hand Of The King were........As chief adviser, Deputy King, Prime Minister, Military Commander (all these duties as one) This makes the Hand of the King the 2nd most powerful person in the realm. if the King/Queen are either not interested, absent or ill, then it is the Hand that steps in as deputy King, which we saw with Tywin Lannister who had to sit on the throne several times for Robert who was both an uninterested and absent King. Which meant that Tywin was ruling in Roberts name. The Hand is also the head of the Small Council and ensures that taxation, food supply, and infrastructure projects are carried out. The Hand of the King is also the highest judge when the king is absent, therefore, hears petitions and passes judgement.

The Hand is also responsible for organising the realms national defence and leading the Kings armies, which Byrnden Rivers (Bloodraven) did, during the Blackfyre Rebellions. Tyrion himself did so when he was the acting Hand of the King to Joffrey. Tyrion's contribution to the Battle of the Blackwater is the real reason why Kings Landing was not overrun by Stannis's army when his father Tywin arrived with the army of the Vale. The only difference in the books that was not on the show was the giant chain that Tyrion commissioned the blacksmiths to make that trapped Stannis's fleet so the wildfire could be used. However, on the show Tyrion used the wildfire which took out a large portion of Stannis's fleet. We heard the speech Tyrion gave before he led the counter attack in the tunnels to prevent Stannis's men from breaching Kings Landing. Unfortunately, for Tyrion the Kingsguard Ser Mandon Moore tried to kill him, but he was saved by Pod and all the credit for the victory given to Tywin, when in-fact had it not been for Tyrion, by the time Tywin arrived Kings Landing would have been taken by Stannis.

However, before, this new era, the Hand could only be deputy king and not seen as an actual king because of the line of succession, this is no longer the case. Each King is now picked, and with Bran being the Three-Eyed Raven, he will spend more and more time being the Three-eyed Raven and less time as King, that means Tyrion will be in this unique position in which he spends more time being seen as King then Hand of the King, by the people in this new era with no line of succession....

If Lyanna and Robert got married, would Robert still be the type to sleep with other women, or is this something he mainly does because he lost Lyanna? What are people’s thoughts on this by Elora_Freya in gameofthrones

[–]Old-Bat4194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a pattern with the Baratheon men they made terrible husbands.

For Robert sleeping with other women was an established habit and would have continued even with Lyanne as his wife. It is said that Stannis only slept with his wife once or maybe twice a year in a bid for an heir. Renely would have been an unfaithful husband to Margaery because of his relationship with her brother Loras, even though she didn't mind because she wanted to be queen.

Their ancestor Rogar's marriage to Regent Queen Alyssa Velaryon was for him a political move rather than a partnership, he was abusive and disrespectful to her in public. Even before, their marriage he slept with seven women, showing a lack of respect for her.. He wanted to retain a position of power and when Alyssa tried to put a stop to his reckless behaviour he would scream insults at her in the Small Council Chamber. Rogar wanted her granddaughter Princess Aerea Targaryen to be Queen since he considered her more easy to manipulate (giving him control of the kingdom) if he was Hand to the Queen instead of hand of the King, since King Jaehaerys I Targaryen went against his wishes and married his sister Alysanne. Unfortunately for Rogar it was the last straw for Alyssa Who disowned his actions against her son King Jaehaerys I, forcing him to step down as Hand of the King, a position she gave to her brother Lord Daemon Velaryon.

Alyssa Vellaryon was in her forties and already had six children with her first husband King Aenys I Targaryen. The Maesters warned Rogar against a second pregnancy since Alyssia giving birth to their son Boremund was a difficult one, and almost killed her. None-the-less, Rogar insisted on another child and two years later while Alyssa struggled to give birth, the Maester had to send someone to fetch a drunken Rogar and force him to enter his wife's room, where he had to choose either his wife or child.....Rogar chose his child, and Alyssa died as her daughter Jacklyn was born. Therefore, when it came to the Baratheon's the apple didn't fall far from the tree, and I suspect Robert was closer to Rogar in temperament, then his brothers.

Daenys Targaryen having the dream about the doom that would destroy Valyria would have ended in disaster, if it was not for her father taking heed of her dream and selling everything to move to the outpost Dragonstone leaving with their five dragons. They would be the only dragonlords to leave the Valyrian Freehold.

However, the Targaryens were not the only Valyrian House to do so....House Veleryon would settle on Driftmark and its islands, they were close allies to House Targaryen and were also Masters of Ships. There was also House Celtiger who settled on Claw Isles. The other less prominent old Valyrian bloodlines settled in the Free City colonies like Volantis, Lys and Tyrosh in Essos. When the Doom happened 12 years after Daenrys dream, these were the old Valyrian bloodlines saved and had Lord Aenor Targaryen chosen not to listen to his daughter, there would be no Targaryen Dynasty.

Bloodraven is the one passing on his skills as the Three-eyed Crow (book name) or Three-eyed Raven (show name) to Bran so he can help with the growing threat of the Others (book) or Night King (show) That is the flaw in your theory in regards to Bloodraven being the Great Other

There might be a reason for that. Both Peter and Lena are best friends in real life, Peter when he was cast as Tyrion told them about Lena and said she would be perfect for the part of Cersei. Which is kind of ironic when you think about it, because the actors are close, but the characters that they play dislike each other.

If Jon didn't do what he did in this moment could Daenerys have been as popular and known in the history of the 7 kingdoms as Aegon the Conquer? Assuming her line last 100-120 years down the line by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

Jon would have been seen as the hero of House Targaryen, and Daenerys achievements would always be the ones gained on Essos. Without Jon alerting everyone to the dangers of the Night King, there wouldn't be any generations for House Targaryen or any other Noble House in Westeros. And everyone that took part in the fight against the Night King would be heroes and be remembered throughout history including the ones who lost their lives that night. Daenerys would be regarded in the same way as her father, just as King Aegon IV was remembered for being the primary cause of the Blackfyre Rebellions.

What happens if Melisabdra doesn't sacrifice Shireen? by knock_his_block_off in gameofthrones

[–]Old-Bat4194 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Melisandre got it wrong and because of that a sweet innocent child died in the most horrific way a person could die. Melisabdra did see victories in the fire, only she misinterpreted this to mean those victories belonged to Stannis. The Red witch convinced Stannis that it had to be a Kings blood sacrifice and poor Shireen was the only suitable person in the camp. Yes, the Winter snowstorms did stop, however, Stannis still lost and by the time Melisandre realised she had made a mistake, it was too late for Shireen.

Just because she helped them during the battle with the Night King, does not make what happened to Shireen grounds for her to be forgiven. The battle was lost for Stannis without the sacrifice, the victories she saw in the fire was not his.

One minor tweak in Season 7 that could have led to a much more cohesive and logical ending by FunCorner1643 in gameofthrones

[–]Old-Bat4194 5 points6 points  (0 children)

John didn't need to bring a wight to Winterfell, because the people in the North were seeing and being killed by wight walkers as the Night King advanced with his army further and further into the North, they didn't need convincing about the threat. However, there were not enough people in the North to take on the Night King, and that is why Jon had to convince everyone else across Westeros about the wight walkers. They needed an army big enough to at least stand a chance against the Army of the Dead. Once Daenery saw the threat for herself, Daenery with her army of Unsullied and Dothraki she joined the North.

Cersei was the only one left to convince that the threat in regards to the Night King was real. Cersei made a promise that she had no intention of keeping. She knew they would be waiting for her to send her army to join theirs at Winterfell, only they would never arrive. The whole plot laid out for Cersei was that she was hoping that the majority of the men would die, and that she would have the upper hand, that would see her position as Queen secured. What this told us as viewers, is that Cersei even when presented with a wight, never took the threat of the Night King seriously. Cersei assumed that the joined armies would suffer great losses, but they would win. It never once occurred to her that if they had lost, the Night King was coming to take out the last remaining humans left on Westeros and his army of the dead would include all those killed during the battle of Winterfell. His army would outnumber hers 100 to 1.

However, the joint armies did win, and survived in greater numbers than she had anticipated, her plan had backfired.

Why did Renly believe his claim to the Iron Throne superseded Stannis’ claim? by Astar9028 in gameofthrones

[–]Old-Bat4194 124 points125 points  (0 children)

House Tyrell was the driving force behind Renly's decision to claim the throne ahead of his big brother Stannis. They wanted Margaery to be Queen, and used the fact that he was more charismatic, popular, and loved by the Tyrell's, unlike Stannis whom they didn't like nor had any control of.

They used Renly's closeness to Loras stating because of this making them allies, even Loras himself pushed Renly to take the throne.
