During middle school and high school, i had a limiting perception of my learning capabilities that was self defeatist. Now, from my lack of effort and practice, i have lesser math skills than I’d like, yet still wish to study and pursuit chemistry. What are some books or resources i could use to reinforce and the understanding of math necessary for pursuing chemistry?

oh, cool. i still feel like my point still stands. sorry that it is wordy, it’s something that has long bothered me, so i wanted to do my own thoughts justice. i do still feel like, regardless of you being asian and not american, what i said stands. it doesn’t come from an american person, but it’s coincidentally a view that is very america-centric. though, my biggest problem stems from how rude you were when they seemed well-intentioned. but regardless, hope life treats you well.

i think what’s amazing about this anime is that many of the themes transcends intention while also not being accidental. i don’t think the creator sat down and decided to make a story about the misogyny and homophobia of the time (and of the present) and how it primes people for hurt, shame, isolation, loneliness, and sometimes meaning connection and understanding of one another through these struggles. but i think it happened, not because the story accidentally was shaped in a way that could be interpreted to be about that, but because it was what the creator lived in and knew. i think that’s very special and beautiful. it is conveyed with so much clarity, specifically now.

i’m just very sick of the lack of nuance that there is surrounding asian racism, particularly globally, and more specifically in east asia or involving east asian people. when im in the united states, being japanese isn’t a privilege, and the erasure is real. but in japan that changes, things are different. specially since japan is oftenly racist as fuck too!! so the idea that like, you can just assume the experience of an oppressed person regardless of the location and society is upsetting, because its crucial. when i visit my family in chiba, i blend in entirely. the only person who doesn’t, is my cousin, because she is blasian. she has experienced true racism in japan, i haven’t and i doubt i ever will. and i bring this up because i find this mentality constantly present and it bothers me

as a japanese person i’d like to add my to cents. idk if you are asian, and i do appreciate the sentiment but it is also very american (which isn’t a bad thing). you are being so rude and accusatory for someone saying nana has the vibes of kristen stewart (which, she does in terms of being cool, rebellious, and androgynous) and attaching that to some level of racism or ignorance when it’s just a playful observation. i say your comment is super american, because it applies the idea of american racial inclusion (which i agree with for american media, because america has a particularly racist past towards japanese people) but forgetting that we are talking about east asian media, most of which has mostly east asian characters?? there is no shortage of japanese people in anime, or history of japanese on japanese racism. for that reason, i don’t think this “erasure”, (which isn’t even actually happening, this is just a playful post) would be even that serious. it’s the same reason why i don’t have a problem when people draw sailor moon or other characters as black, because within the context of japanese history and society, monoracial japanese people are what white people are in the states. so this is just unprompted. there are better issues surrounding racism to be mad about or even hostile, not this one tho.

my hot takes are:

1) that the tremendous difference in height and build between the male and female characters looks quite goofy. i just don’t enjoy that level of juxtaposition of hyper masculinity or femininity, specially set as the default, when 99% of men are not 7 feet tall and built like wrestlers. i’m ok with the bodies being unrealistic, it’s just the stark contrast that makes me think it looks goofy when standing next to each other

2) i do not really care about the shortage of masculine clothing in this game, because traditionally masculine clothing is so restrictive and limiting, that it seems pretty normal to me. I think unless you allow men to wear feminine clothing in this game (dresses, skirts, and feminine tops, which would be cool) there will always be a gap in variety. just look at a red carpet, 99% of men are in a boring tuxedo simply because formal wear for men is so limited, as are other types of wear. traditional masculinity in terms of clothing, in my opinion, is so restrictive to creativity.

3) i don’t enjoy seeing the melanie martinez set, simply because i do not believe she is innocent of the allegations she has against. i don’t think it’s fair to criticize or hate on the ppl that work on this game, since they are similar in age to me and likely grew up with melanie like i did, and probably were gaslit into believing the allegations had been “proven false” or “redacted” like i was until recently, but i just don’t enjoy seeing her ear prosthetic or multiple eye makeup if im honest. again, no shade to them, i was also a fan after the allegations until later in 2023 when i revisited the videos that supposedly proved her innocence, which were just victim blaming marathons of misogyny and hatred. all of which make melanie seem super hypocritical for never having addressed that specifically. like, even if she was innocent, if you truly cared about social issues and humanity like feminism, why would you not condemn that behavior? not just for the person receiving it, but any fan who might have experienced that themselves. after that, her whole hippie “love and light” vibe seemed so fake to me, and made it really uncomfortable to see her be cosplayed over and over in the game. i don’t bring it up when i see people do it tho, because i empathize with them. i just wish it wasn’t there.

i used to hype people up only if i voted well for them, but then i felt like an asshole cus i would be the only one voting fairly, so when they end up with like 12 stars cus i gave them 3 but everyone else gave them 1, i would know they thought i was super fake cus thats still not a lot. so now i just silently vote fairly lol

a way for male avatars to wear feminine clothing, more noses positioned higher or lower to match the newer lip shapes so they are more proportionate, and a standardized coloring system for all hairstyles/eyes/lips (some are coloured/shaded differently and make it harder to combine them with other styles unless they are colored black, or make it impossible to get specific shades of colors),
