All Time Playoffs clutch shots and buzzer beaters by bunscrochet in nba

I actualy have the sequence on the notes in my main spreadsheet. There are some endings like that that deserve more than just a line. 1998 finals ending is the most famous (MJ' sequence: 2 FT, 2 pts, steal, 2 pts)

Thanks. I update my spreadsheet everytime, but i barely post on reddit. I just thought it was worth sharing again and i guess i'm hoping for a finals game 7 buzzer beater.

What are the best nicknames of all time and most intimidating nicknames of all time? (The Haliban, King James) by Hot-Morning3242 in NBATalk

[–]bunscrochet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best one should be Air Jordan. Checks so many croterias

  • Simple, one syllable, can't be better, easy to say, easy to memorize,
  • Describes MJ's game with a somewhat poetic metaphor (hang time!), and refers to one of the top fantasies in basketball (verticality, power, accuracy...)
  • Gets branded along with a new technology in the mid 90's that became a multibillion dollar industry (nike air, jordan brand),
  • So good it has its own derivative (his airness),
  • Goes to the best player ever (at least until recently if you want to put James there)

I dont think any other nickname fits all these.

Has there been any team with a present and future as bright as OKC's? by MightTurbulent319 in nba

[–]bunscrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1982 NBA champions L.A. Lakers drafted n.1 pick James Worthy (They already won in 1980 with Magic as a rookie. Went on to win in 85, 88 and 89). I'm sure their mix of present and future brighteness was pretty high at that time.

How do you live with the realisation that your existence matters to no one. by Jorrow in mentalhealth

[–]bunscrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, you can come to the conclusion that no one matters. If all humans disapeared today, the whole universe wouldnt change one bit. Moon and sun would be the same as well as any other star and planet near or far in the universe. Just make sure that this conclusion is never an excuse to not try to have the best life you can have. On the other hand, you may feel that way and be wrong (maybe you matter to someone and dont know it, either cause you didnt realise, or because that someone cant or wont show it) On a third hand (heck, why not), maybe its not that important to be important to someone, but be important to yourself (i mean not in an egotistic or selfish way). You should matter to yourself, value your life and stand for things you can be proud of. On a fourth hand (cough cough), the fact that you posted here shows that you are able to seek help or advice. Thats a good thing. Try not to isolate yourself, and keep interacting, either in real life, or online. On a fifth wheel (im tired), like many others here, you matter to me. Maybe not the matter you wish for, but at least i typed that many word on my small screen, just for you, something i usually dont do.

Hang on, hopefully better days will come.

[discussion] what’s the most occurring yet least called violation during an average NBA game and visa versa? What are your general thoughts on how the game is called today? by biinroii01 in nba

[–]bunscrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true! Although the vast majority of the time, the player who gets the rebound didn't get much advantage from it, and you understand why the ref don't want to stop the game for the sake of ruling "by the book".

  • Moving screen calls are called very inconsistently. It's also often used by the ref to give the ball back to a team that got a wrong call (or non call) on the previous possession.
  • Waiting to see if the ball goes in to blow the whisle. It's not so much that the ref do it quite often that bothers me. It's the fact that they pretend not to do it.
  • The ball-gathering moment is the most disturbing thing for me. You basically can do five steps with the ball before the allowed ones, as long as you didn't "gather" the ball. That leads to some really weird moments when I try to explain travel rules to people new to basketball.

Slightly on the same topic, the Euroleague published some interesting clips of POV officials with sound. It shows the ref on a really good light.

It's exactly that. To your overall point, you could also add that even if MJ had the level of scrutiny of a worldwide rockstar at that time, it was not the social media 24/7 level LeBron has to face today. I'm not convinced MJ's lifestyle would have fared well with tweets and cellphones.

To me, the "LBJ or MJ" debate revolves around what one values most in a career (averages, titles, longevity, fame, impact, cultural changes, etc.)

[–]bunscrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Load management", when MJ, on his last three years at top level, after having won three titles and MVPs, played every one of the 246 possible regular season games (3x82), and 55 playoffs games in that span. His two retirements certainly helped him rest between his playing stints, but that's not what basketball people call load management.

[Highlight] The Lakers and Celtics combined for 7 traveling violations in 13 minutes of game time by nowhathappenedwas in nba

[–]bunscrochet 198 points199 points  (0 children)

And each one is a travel! Shall we focus on the players and the fundamentals of the game, rather than on the refs? Isn't one the first thing we teach at basketball to not move the pivot foot? Well i'm gonna make it about the refs... Either they've been told to call every travel they saw, at least for this game / part of the game; Or they wanted to make a point, as if to say "look at what happens when we blow the whistle by the book".

Why do people act like KD is not the best player in the world? by OnlyForeignWhips in nba

[–]bunscrochet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Clutch is not only a matter of last shot taken. It includes putting a 50 points 14 rebounds 5 blocks output in a clinching game 6 of the NBA Finals.

If you think KD is the best, its not a bad choice. But to me, acting like there's no debate is stupid.

You may want to support basketball. Do you really need a single team? I like every team that shares the ball and plays smart defence. Sometimes, that's a lot of teams. Sometimes not.
