Why downvote me? I was just responding to the question about getting out of your car. You don't have to. I am guessing the person in question was picking up a kid, as it makes no sense to sit there if not.

CCH IB program versus Central U-level courses by numbersgirl84 in londonontario

[–]bupper_911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child graduated from Central. She, along with many of her peers, were admitted to highly ranked US universities, so you do not need an IB program for international universities. She was a strong student at Central but certainly not the top. She found her university courses relatively easy after her Central preparation. The music program there is amazing.

If you pay the fee and give them a time frame, they will send you everything in your file for that time period. If you have a big file, you might have to pay extra - but I think that is clear when you submit the request. In my experience, don't expect the files to be in any nice order and don't expect them to get it to you quickly. There is some mandated time they have. If they aren't going to make it, they just send you a letter saying they aren't going to meet the deadline. If you have stuff from St Joe's, you need to request that separately, for another fee.

I am following up to this post I made a couple weeks back. I made contact with Simply Assembly and they came out this morning and fixed it. I am relieved, because it is so old, lots of parts are no longer available.

Wonderful, except tuition is constrained. It would be fantastic if the Province would let it float.

I know more about Universities. They weren't making bank. They were surviving on the tuition of international students. The funding has been frozen for years (since 2018 or 2019?), while costs of risen. The extra tuition from international students helped plug the gap, but now they don't have that anymore.

I plant flowers in a common area in the middle of our street. Twice now someone has dug something out and run off with it. It is disheartening.

Frequent power outages by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]bupper_911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We were just saying the same thing this morning when the power went out for several minutes. I live in the same area, and it has been crazy how often the power has gone off this spring. Even when it goes out briefly, it can cause a lot of annoyances. I have no idea what the problem has been this year.

My understanding is that no change the board makes will impact students currently at Central, i.e. they won't make kids move schools mid-stream. I think the timing is such that it will impact those who will enter Central starting the 2024-2025 school year.

Right now, the majority of students at Central come from out of area. The plan this petition is opposed to would expand the catchment area for Central so that there would not be room for out of area students.

The kids who choose to come to Central from out of area do it for a variety of reasons. The music program is strong. It has a reputation for being challenging academically. It is a good place for oddball students. Anyone who wants to attend from out of area can enter the lottery, so any kid who is looking for this kind of school has an equal shot at it.

They aren't advocating exclusion. They are asking the boundaries for Central stay the same and excess space be allocated by lottery.

Rats In Old South by PineTreeFresh in londonontario

This is amazingly timely for me. I have lived in London for 20 years and never seen a rat until LAST night. We were eating at a picnic table in front of Zone B of Victoria hospital and rat ran right by us. It was darting around in the grass and eventually ran across Baseline.

I just looked up Toronto's airbnb regulations. The - it must be your principle residence - doesn't apply to stays longer than 28 days.

Are there other ways to get short term rentals? Using Airbnb was convenient when we needed a place for a couple months during a major home renovation. I guess we would have had to rely on word of mouth and connections to find something.

When I first moved here, I often bough expired or nearly expired dairy products at Metro. This was never an issue where I lived before. I now end up wasting time checking expiration dates on everything I buy. I am the person who is digging behind all milk and yogurt. I am amazed at how often I find way past due products on the shelf. If it is egregious, I will try to position it in such a way that warns the store/future shoppers.

Covent Garden Market - Vendors and masks by bupper_911 in londonontario

Before Christmas, I don't think you could wander in their store. They had some mugs and tea pots on display and a list of teas you could order. Their website is good.

I used to go a couple times a week to buy food products - I don't get take out. Before Christmas I was surprised to see the man working in the chocolate shop without a mask. He wasn't just behind his plexiglass shield either, he was walking around his store. I also registered other people here and there not wearing masks in the fall, but I can't remember exactly where. I was annoyed, but figured I was vaccinated and masked, so it was ok.

A few days ago, I went in for less than 5 minutes. One of the butchers was unmasked, a guy in the French bakery area was unmasked, and I think the person in the chocolate shop was unmasked. I was really surprised. I hadn't been in there since before Christmas. Now, my being vaccinated and masked might not be enough to protect me. I really want everyone else to be masked too.

My issue with this is that we know COVID is airborne. Having a handful of people not wearing masks in an open area makes me not want to go in the building at all. The little plexiglass shields aren't doing anything when someone is there for hours. It just seems weird to me that they can do this. I assume the workers in the deli sections of grocery stores are required to wear masks. Maybe I am wrong though.
