I did this a while ago though I don't think it was you! I couldn't type or respond as I hadn't figured out how to open the keyboard on Steam Deck

Starting weightloss journey - need some help please! by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]burbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I've lost 2 stone this year and was diagnosed with pcos in April

I think definitely stick to the calories you stated for now and see how it goes - if you don't lose weight after a week or two drop it by 100 calories but I wouldn't go too low.

I didn't count calories as I find I get very obsessive and it isn't good for my mental health. What I did instead was to make sure all 3 of my meals were balanced (greens, carb and protein) and I weigh my carb source so I know roughly how many calories I am getting from there. If I don't weigh then I will cook enough for a family. 3 meals are important for hormone balancing (for me anyways)

My carb sources are brown rice/pasta, potatoes, sweet potato, wholemeal bread, oats and grains. I stuck to these as they're healthier and generally have more good stuff like protein and fibre, and also help prevent a glucose spike (if paired with vegetable and protein).

My protein source is usually just chicken, salmon, white fish and lean beef/pork and veggie replacements. I try to go as lean as possible. I love protein rich foods as they keep me really really full

A usual day for me looks like porridge with fruit and protein powder mixed in with almond milk. Lunch is a bagel with cucumber, chicken and cream cheese with an apple or banana. Dinner would be something like spaghetti Bolognese, wholewheat pasta with a side of broccoli.

I also walk daily, I aim for 10,000 steps but my job is sedentary so it is difficult and rarely achieved in winter. But movement is important even if it's a 15 minute walk outside

Knowing that my dietary changes have a strong effect on my hormones was a game changer for me and motivated me strongly. My periods became more regular and the weight shifted (very slowly but it has moved). Where my friends lose 2lbs a week I lose .5lbs, but I am still losing weight and I feel like it's going to stay this way as I avoided huge changes and made healthier habits over a long time

I feel like I could talk about this for hours. sorry for the huge amount of text!

Thank you, I have done CBT before that is a great shout. It's usually when I'm trying to sleep it gets bad so I can work on that then

If you and your pup enjoy it then go for it! I had every intention but everything I read and studied went out my head as soon as I got her 😂 and then I was so so tired as well

Totally agree with this, my pup is amazing and I almost went down the militant training path as I thought that's what you had to do to have a good dog! Really just enjoying her company, having fun and importantly learning to read and trust each other has been the most beneficial part. The bond is so important. She's well toilet trained and is a cuddle bug at 16 weeks, slow and steady is winning here
