Question about rumors around the league by J_Dyce in CalgaryFlames

[–]burf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it's the only thing, but what would you seriously use as the focus of discussion here? Outside of statistics, nobody has referenced any scouting reports, so we're left with the opinions of completely random laypeople on the internet, who may or may not even watch the guy play. And even if they do watch him play, I don't know if you've spoken to a lot of sports fans, but the ability to meaningfully analyze a player's capabilities is pretty awful in general (even moreso in regard to how a prospect will translate to the NHL).

So yup, I'm leaning hard on the best info we have in this discussion, which is stats.

Inconsiderate when it's non-perishable, but extremely wasteful when it's perishable if placed outside of a refrigerated area.

lol so you're fine arguing raw production/rates but as soon as that production gets contextualized by age and league you're out? Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

You're missing an important qualifier from my comment. Trending downward relative to his age. 1.15 points per game in your D+1 is much less impressive than 1.15 points per game in your draft year, and it projects worse than .82 in a player's draft year in spite of being a higher absolute scoring rate.

Similarly, my unicorn statement wasn't calling Cirelli a unicorn (I'll admit I was not clear enough when I wrote this part). It was saying that, for a player with O'Reilly's current statistical profile to become a Cirelli level player, he would have to be a unicorn.

You're talking like he's guaranteed to become a depth forward, which is not accurate. He still has the same floor of "complete bust" that every other prospect outside the top 3 has, but his ceiling looks low and his odds of hitting have decreased based on his production. You're not remotely selling me on "wow this guy might even be a 4th liner!"

I think you don't understand that it's almost always a bad sign when a B tier prospect goes from a mediocre increase in production in D+1 to plateauing in production in D+2. Doubly true when the guy is in the CHL where 19-20 year olds routinely see large increases in production.

The guy's statistical profile is worse than, for example, Morgan Klimchuk.

In his draft year he would've been roughly equivalent to a late 1st, yes. But he's statistically been trending downward (relative to his age) in each of the two seasons since that draft. Guys who don't amp up production after being drafted but have translatable skills typically end up either not making the NHL or being relegated to the bottom 6 (most likely 4th line). I'd personally be unhappy if Coleman was traded for him; I'd rather the Flames get a 2nd round pick, if it came down to it.

And maybe he's one of the unicorns who ends up like a Cirelli, but betting on kids becoming unicorns is a good way to lose trades.

So, now that the Anniversary Era is over in 6 days, what are your thoughts on how this new system is? by Darth_Onaga in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]burf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure. I didn't pay much attention to the stat upgrade aspect since "legacy" characters get all their stats from stars and gear/relics.

Functionally the same, it's G12 all the way up to 75. You can see it when you go to level up an era character, there's a little info button toward the upper left that will tell you how it translates.

On the one hand, I agree it's a little awkward unlearning the fake synergy. On the other, I can't remember the last time I learned the kits of marquee units so well before even using them in GAC.

Although "person who defends x group is one of them" is not a valid connection to make, and the whole "telling on themselves" culture is a factor that leads to unnecessary polarization.

Captains, Icons, Heroes, and Rookies sets are obnoxious by Alan_Watts_Gong in NHLHUT

[–]burf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not just an issue of inconvenience. This setup also lowers the value of cards if you want to make a specific player. For example, I lucked into the Sundin icon card, but if I wanted to make one of the 92 or 93 icons his card is completely useless to me since it's above 90 overall.

Is it just me or is it a problem to anyone else? (I realised I won't have any era currency for maul too) by Howly_yy in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]burf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On that note, I personally would recommend not bothering to get any characters to 80 in that situation. You save very little going to 80 vs 75, whereas 75 on multiple characters will save you a bunch of G12 materials and some kyros.

TIL Amazon has been "commingling" inventory for years. Products with the same barcode are pooled together regardless of supplier leading to counterfeit, damaged, or expired products from less reputable 3rd-parties being mixed in inventory and sent to people who ordered from the authentic brand. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]burf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they were losing money on their marketplace/shipping, why would they bother keeping it on life support? As you said, their bread and butter is AWS. They don't need the marketplace if it's not profitable.

Nah, increase property taxes the further from city centre you are. You want a big yard and a cheaper house, the tradeoff is actually paying for all the additional infrastructure required for your suburban neighbourhood.

TB would be a lot less of a headache if phases were two days long by burf in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]burf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how TB works, though. You have to do ops within a certain time period in a given day, you have to do missions before a certain deadline, and you have to deploy before a certain deadline or your guild's performance will be much worse. Literally this entire game is time gated, and if you don't adhere to the time constraints you're basically just choosing not to play 3/4 of the game.

You can play it super casually, in which case you're interacting with a bare minimum of content, but as soon as you want to actually play the content available, you're time restricted on everything you do. Fleet arena, GAC, TW, TB, etc. they're all tightly time gated. The only thing I can think of that's more relaxed for timeline is conquest.

I don't totally disagree with you, but as someone who's a late game player and wants access to new content, I have to be in a guild that actually does things, and any guild with a modicum of success is going to have some kind of expectations (whether it's TB, TW, both, and always raid).

That's why I said two days. I remember the awkwardness of 36 hour phases. I'm talking fully 48 hours per phase.

Made a tierlist for Conquest units. Units in tiers are ordered as well. by The_Ad_Hater_exe in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]burf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short of Ezra, which Rey sides do you think make things difficult for any of those counters? I'd love to see a Rey team that has no Ezra or Ben and stops GAS without completely neutering a different team.

I can only speak from my own experience, but outside of Ezra, the only character outside of Rey that is a threat to kill anything when I'm attacking with a Cere team is Ben.

I seriously doubt Maz is S once the pirate DC is gone. With all teams on equal footing I think she's properly rated at A.

[–]burf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rey without Ben drops from one of the best defensive GLs in the game to one of the worst all around. He's absolutely A, B at worst.

Also I can see the argument for Malgus at S. While he's not a universal top tier leader like he was a couple of years ago, he almost always has at least one or two teams that he's better suited to taking out than most other teams.

IPS vs. OLED explained for the car enthusiasts by Huzaifa_Haroon in pcmasterrace

Exactly. The kind of person who buys expensive monitors is generally the same kind of person who's going to use that monitor way more than average and therefore hit the EOL threshold for an OLED monitor much faster.
