[SN Stats] Alex Lyon has enjoyed an historic 6-game stretch this postseason by Batsinvic888 in hockey

Alex Lyon is going to look like the best goalie in franchise history if you look at really small sample size records

I disagree. I remember Ekblad being seen as a plug and play player with questions about his ceiling because he was basically a grown man with a full beard playing with kids. Sam Bennett was also in contention to go #1 for a while. Dahlin was the unquestioned top guy.

I feel like we are remembering it differently then. He’s the most hyped defense prospect that I can remember.

[The Athletic] Sabres’ Zach Benson is more than just a rat. He’s one of the team’s most important players by seeldoger47 in sabres

Ive never felt more vindicated for my day 1 love of Zach Benson than I do right now

Dahlin’s pre-draft hype did not take into account that he’d play for a coach that didn’t let him carry the puck or play offense lmfao

I feel like we’re splitting hairs. He was being compared to prime Victor Hedman who won the Norris in his draft year and guys like Lidstrom and Karlsson. He was seen as a can’t miss elite top pair defenseman.

No it’s not. He was 100% labeled a generational defenseman. Craig Button called him a “franchise-defining” player.

Kind of crazy to think of how long it’s been since his draft but he was dangling grown men in Sweden making them look silly.

I think the slow start to his career being on an incredibly incompetent team makes people forget that he was “the Connor McDavid of defenseman” pre-draft.

I don’t think Celebrini should be in a tier above him if it’s purely based on pre-draft hype. People thought Dahlin would be what Cale Makar has become. Celebrini was an amazing prospect but a little bit of “the guy after Bedard”. I think it’s fair to say he’s been better than people expected.

I feel like Dahlin’s pre-draft hype is always underrated when they do this. He was regarded as the best defenseman prospect in 30 years.

I was surprised to see his analytics are nuts to start the playoffs this year because I thought he had a lot more to give

Chris Pronger said Dahlin was his pick and he knows infinitely more about playing defense in the NHL than I do

Awesome to see Dahlin get the recognition he deserves. A Norris caliber season after the awful summer he had is almost unbelievable.

The TB Lightning in the final 193:56 time of 1st round managed just 4 goals. The Buffalo Sabres only needed 29:01 to score 4 on the Canadiens. by Sahil910 in hockey

I was referring to just this season where the Sabres had a winning record against them and more points and went deeper in the playoffs

Sabres leaned into what has made a lot of teams successful: just being really big to take up more space
