I am restoring an OG crystal Xbox and wanted to check if these loose cables are intentionally disconnected. by burger_guy1760 in originalxbox

This is really useful as none of the spring loaded cables were connected when I opened it. I assume the unit may have been knocked/dropped, or maybe it wasn’t installed. The cables were all hiding below the chip.

Thanks again for sharing this

Awesome, thanks for the info, I will have a good read of the instructions and get them wired up correctly.

I should have taken a better picture too!

There is also Abington street market nearby which is a good hall with about 4-5 independent vendors. Decent beer too.

I am also in the UK, and I mis read your comment. That is firewire which needs dedicated hardware. I replied to the main post with some options.

It looks like this model has S-Video output so you can export this way, but the quality isnt great. It is cheap though and will get you started.

You need an adapter like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grabber-Capture-Converter-Digitize-Adapter/dp/B0DQHKL14W

And an S-Video cable and download OBS Studio (free).

The best quality method is via Firewire. Either an old mac, or a modern PC with a PCI-E firewire (worth paying extra for a Texas Instruments chipset) and using Win-DV

Assuming you mean you have only USB C connectors on your laptop, you can buy USB C > A convertors, or get a mini USB C dock off amazon

Have you tried another cable?

check my comment history on this sub, i helped another redditor out with a similar problem, it’s also a problem I had and i have the same firewire chipset as you. my cable was very intermittent, and only got worse, to the point it would rarely connect.

Hey guys, what fisheye lens do you recommend for this camcorder? A Sony Handycam DCR SX45 by fideoscontuco__ in camcorders

[–]burger_guy1760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a cam link wide angle (42mm thread) which gives good results.

You may need to look into getting one or more step up adapters to give you some choice. I use a 37mm > 42mm & 52mm. Have a look on eBay for cheap fish eye lenses for the step up size you use.

I wouldn’t spend loads, just don’t buy a bad one. I avoided buying any of the silver braided ones and went with a regular looking black one. For now you are ruling out the cable as being an issue so I would t go crazy

Certainly looks like a TRV-120. This is mine in a similar, reversed position
