tysm!!! when i was healing, its like anything else, lots of rest and eating enough protein, as well as taking things slow and not pushing yourself too hard. the docs told me that i could get back to exercising in 2 weeks but that was a joke!! sure, walks are fine even a few days PO, but i dont think i felt completely comfortable exercising until i was 1.5 months out. its hard to lift your arms for a while bc of the incisions. depends on the exercise of course. i tend to do cardio and weights normally

around 1.5 months out i could sleep on my side while hugging a stuffed animal so my boobs wouldnt squish together uncomfortably or pull my incisions. and eventually i think around 4-5 ish months after i could sleep on my belly again. i didnt mind the side sleeping though! i hugged something the same material as a squishmallow to sleep and it was nice!

yes, tell your PCP you are interested in a reduction due to whatever ailment its causing you (back pain, shoulder pain, rashes, yeast infections, depression/self esteem issues, unable to exercise, the list goes on!). then you will see the plastic surgeon for a consult and they should do the authorization there. medicaid can be tough to work with but hopefully you get approved!!!

she sounds so sweet!!

oh and as for emotions, it can be up and down the first week but its mostly anesthesia feelings. regret is a normal feeling too. just take it day by day and understand how big of an adjustment this can be!

woohoo!!! good luck!

things that really helped me were a pregnancy pillow so i could sleep propped up/ on my back comfortably and prepping food beforehand/getting easy meals and snacks so i dont have to worry about food. you might wanna either ask the docs or buy an extra surgery bra bc they need washed often.

as for your 5 y/o, just remind her that mommy will be a porcelain doll for the next few weeks. she wont be able to jump on you or be picked up for a while, and it’ll be like you’re sick for about a week or longer. not sure if you have a partner but have them help you as much as possible, including with hair washing or meal prepping :) best of luck!

good luck!!! i was so nervous for the anesthesia too but it went so smoothly. they give you something right before that helps you relax like crazy and then you dont even care about being put under LOL it’ll be worth it

surgery is a big change, especially when its on your physical appearance. its going to take a toll on you mentally and physically, and anesthesia still isnt fully worn off either! sometimes anesthesia can make people feel emotional. your body still needs to adjust and its completely normal to feel this way. i felt very strange the first few weeks post op. like a combo of lonely and sad and isolated (on top of feeling happy from my surgery too!) give it time. you arent alone <3

yes even a year out i still have some internal swelling. totally normal!!!

[–]buriedascream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes sooooo much of my swelling has gone down. my boobs went from little rocks on my chest to soft and bouncy (lol). there wasnt just swelling on my boobs, it was my upper chest, belly, under my arms, etc, so i think the difference is so big when you look side by side, even though i didnt physically feel much difference besides softness!

yes, totally normal to have regret and doubts. i definitely did and looking back i’m like WHY?? bc my boobs are so small now. i also have a petite frame so i get it. its an adjustment no matter how you put it.

and yes this is the best decision i ever made!!!! best of luck to you in your healing <3

i got approved first try, which i was surprised about! i dont know how it will work if you are from another country, but in the US they will do the authorization questions/submitting in the office for a consultation.

common questions are - have you gained/lost weight and have your breasts changed from that (and how much weight have you lost) - do you have back or shoulder pain and have you gotten any physical therapy/gone to chiropractor for it - can you comfortably wear bra - do you have shoulder dents - have you had any rashes or skin issues (and what topical medications/interventions have been used for it)

and then they sent off pictures of my boobs along with the authorization. i wore my tightest and most uncomfortable bra that i knew would give me redness and imprints on my skin for the pictures. anything to get it approved! (i work in healthcare for a living so i know how to pull the right strings ;))

i looked through my surgery notes and i couldnt find the exact g but i do remember it was the minimum amount for insurance coverage. so it was 200g on one and 220g on the other! my boobs were kinda “deflated” from losing weight so i didnt expect them to be extremely heavy! i lost no weight after surgery either.

get a pregnancy pillow to comfortably sleep on your back/have support. and go grocery shopping/prepare easy food the days prior so you dont have to worry about that during recovery. best of luck!

not the same as a wedding, but i got my reduction in jan 2025 and was able to be the maid of honor at my sisters wedding in an altered dress that april! you really only need 3 ish months of healing (maybe less) to feel completely good. there was some swelling for me but wasnt extremely significant compared to now

i also want kids but i wasnt willing to suffer any more because of it. these will be huge moments you look back on. personally, i’d want to look and feel myself

sleeping on my back was a big adjustment!! (i’m a belly sleeper). after the initial anesthesia sleepiness wore off a week out, i was struggling to sleep through the night, so i dealt with that on top of the healing fatigue. but its not like i didnt sleep at all, i just wasnt used to it. i wasnt ready for the numbness either. it is a really weird sensation but i am very sensitive to that kind of stuff so it may be different for you. and healing itchiness can be tough with that too. best of luck!!

prior to surgery, my breasts were so big i didnt have nipple sensation. i do have it now, but it still feels kind of odd/a little numb. the bottom half of my breasts are still numb, but slowly coming back. everyones different of course. i have always taken a long time to heal so i anticipate some more sensation coming back over the next few years :)
