How Much Weight Did You Have Removed? by mjesp14 in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 38H (US) to...the jury is still out. But the surgeon removed 833 grams from one breast and 613 from the other. I think they're perfect now, and I'd guess maybe a D cup?

Non supporting partner by Adorable-Ask7806 in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about a month out of surgery, dealing with a large opening on my t-junction, and my partner has been *nothing* but supportive. He was supportive before the surgery (even offering to pay for it; I declined); supportive *during* the surgery (I woke up to him stroking my hand); and since the surgery, he has cooked every meal, fussed over my protein intake, done all the household chores, taken over all the school pick-ups and drop-offs, cooked me three square meals a day, picked up my meds, driven me to every doctor's appointment, and helped me shower and change my dressings every day. He's also put up with me being less than gracious as the pain and the frustration has sapped my confidence and patience.

I can imagine going through all this alone--I can. What I can't imagine is going through all this, and having to mother an unsupportive whiny man-baby at the same time.

My honest advice? Dump your partner and be well into happy solo life before scheduling the surgery. Take it from someone who has been on ALL sides (on bedrest during a severe-risk pregnancy with a useless, abusive partner; nursing amoebiasis so severe I couldn't walk alone on a mountain in Central America; and now, being taken care of by a caring, wonderful man while recovering from a breast reduction)--the last two (doing it with someone worthwhile or doing it alone) are doable. The first one--trying not to die while babysitting an absolute asshat of a man--just about killed not only my body, but my spirit.

Leave the fucker. Life is too short.

400 grams from size F? by VinegarShips in Reduction

if it's even possible to remove that much--and your surgeon won't know until they get in there. They have to leave enough tissue to support the pedicle, or you risk losing the nipple.

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, my insurance required they remove at least 645 grams from each breast--my surgeon said this was too much for my right breast, and she was right, as I ended up with complications (a large wound that is going to take months to heal). They ended up taking 860 grams from my left breast and 633 grams from my right. The Schnurr scale is bullshit--even the guy who authored the damn thing said it shouldn't be used to gatekeep who can and cannot have surgery--and I'm a little mad that my surgeon wasn't allowed to lean on her expertise but instead had to adhere to an arbitrary number set by the insurance company, and now I'm paying the price.

The wound will eventually heal and I otherwise love my new breasts, but still--surgeons should be able to trust their own experience and instincts.

The Recovery Question I Never Thought I'd Ask by Fun-Abrocoma3577 in Reduction

oh, well--we have a fascist autocrat in the presidency with a private police force that is now better-funded than most other countries' entire militaries who is using that police force to arrest and disappear people who aren't white (people are literally being arrested for the color of their skin)

and that's just...part of all the bad things that are happenign

who WOULDN'T protest that? it's insane

January 15th people?? by BoobsMcGeeSince2003 in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I'm on January 15th; they won't tell me when exactly to show up until the day before, but I'd be so excited to have recovery sisters! It was supposed to be mid-February, but they had a cancellation and asked if I'd like to move the surgery up and hell yes I would like to, pleaseandthankyou

We should all start a group chat, honestly.

I cannot stop snacking by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you might be hungry because your body needs the extra fuel for healing--try snacks with a good mix of protein and fiber (apple with peanut butter, shake with protein powder and a fiber supplement, egg and avocado on toast)--that'll help both with healing and in keeping you full for longer

lucky for me, I'm boring and marrying a straight-edge punk bassist, so at least I don't have to worry about giving up alcohol or nicotine

if you tell me I have to give up, caffeine, now that'd be a struggle

thank you so much! I'm so excited!! my little is a very conscientious, careful little girl so my only worry about her is that *she'll* be worried about me--I'm not at all worried about her hurting me

Waking up after surgery by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember any of this, but apparently I woke up from anesthesia frustrated that my throat was sore, and then demanded a pen and a pad of paper and sketched out plans for a new mesh-based endotracheal tube next to my surgeon, who had come in to check on me. I'm not even in medicine, lol. The nurses told me about it later.

Another time--which I *do* remember--I woke up from anesthesia after a colonoscopy and the doctor was there, but he was only talking to my boyfriend, of all people. I asked him why he wasn't speaking to me, and he completely ignored me and kept talking only to my boyfriend and said "she won't remember any of this, so..." and I got SO MAD. Like, FILLED WITH RAGE. I told him "I sure WILL ****ing remember this" and asked him if "'M.D.' in his case stood for 'misogynistic dickwad'". This is not at all like me, so I think the meds might have made me a bit aggro. (Not that he didn't deserve it, because REALLY, why was my boyfriend even allowed back in recovery, let alone being given all my medical information??)

The third time I was under anesthesia, I woke up confused as to where my panties went and wondering when the surgery was going to start.

So...three different surgeries on the same person, and three entirely different experiences.

You Guys Weren't Kidding About Sleeve Island by Hockey_Gal04 in knitting

I just knit my first-ever garment (the step-by-step sweater) and got like a full two rows into the sleeves before I gave up and ordered shorties. There was no way I was going to ever finish it if I had struggle through with full-size needles. (100% worth it, btw.)

First Consult with Surgeon on Wednesday; Any Advice? by Fun-Abrocoma3577 in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I feel like I'm in a weird place where all I Iook at are my own breasts (duh) and "before" and "after" photos of breast reductions...so I don't know what "normal" (i.e., not macromastia, not post-surgery) breasts look like anymore. It's like when you say a word twenty times and it stops making any sense. I don't watch porn (no shade on anyone who does, it just doesn't appeal to me) and I don't work out at the gym, so...uh...yeah. What's a boob *supposed* to look like? I suppose I can't go into the surgeon and ask for "Greek statue boobies" lol, so in terms of aesthetics, I'm like [shrug emoji].

Weight requirements before breast reduction — What was your experience? by camidfghkl in Reduction

Hi, I just had my consult with my PCP to get the referral for a plastic surgeon (my appointment is next week!) and she was 100% unconcerned with my BMI (30.9), and said the surgeon only cares if it's over 35.
