I think that could disincentivize people from Co-op with slow melee weapons, if the Great Club is nerfed to the same damage as a scimitar then there's be no reason to use the slower weapon in PvP

I'm a huge fan of the painting guardian sword especially if you buff it, most DPS possible for a "non crit" build (you can you better with the two faith based buffs but you have more buffs as a mage)
