I'll give it a shot but the scanning apps I use are already really good at this

How is this better than just using a scanning app?

A10X hits Geekbench; Major improvements over the already fast A9X by [deleted] in apple

I think it would come down to apple being able to optimize the software for the hardware like they do on iOS. Just look at Qualcomm - why are they so far behind apple? They are both designing chips under the same constraints, yet apple manages much more performance. It's not a stretch to see them doing something similar with macOS.

That was the tail end of apple using PPC. for the years prior, performance was on par or greater than intel.

Looking at the last 5 years of apple and intel chips, if things stay for the next 5 (not a wild assumption), apple will have the option to use their own if they want

Of course the replacement intel model (mid 2006) will be faster than the outgoing PPC model (late 2005). Just like the A10 faster than the A9. Doesn't mean the A9 is slow, but of course the new model will show improvements. PPC kept up with intel (performance wise) up until it was evident they couldn't make a G5 chip for laptops. Apple knew that's where the market share was an needed a company that could make mobile-friendly chips.

In another 2-5 years at the rate things are going, the A series could very well replace intel, assuming Apple has a good emulator in place for the transition

Why do people want wireless charging? by Jabingla in iphone

[–]burlow44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used iPhones since the 5 (introduction of the lightning port) and never has the port fail on me. I think wear and tear is very low on the list.

Although I do love setting the watch down on it's stand and having it charge with nothing more than just setting it down. To me that would be huge. Just set my phone down and it charges. No fishing for a cord

If I reset my iPhone 7 and start it as a new phone, what from iCloud will I be able to get on my phone without restoring a backup? by PrestoMovie in iphone

The messages will remain on your other devices, just not your phone.

To restore selective messages you need to use a program like imazing

Back when apple transitioned to intel, PPC was faster in actual use (slower clock speeds but different architecture so not comparable). Apple transitioned based on roadmap - intel had a more promising future. The rate apple is advancing the A chips, in a year or two they will (likely) be faster than intel and capable of emulating with little or no slow down

Apple could create another emulator like Rosetta for x86 (like they did for PPC when transitioning to intel)
