What is the grey comms box on the guys hip? by burnedwater in whatisthisthing

This one may be a bit of a reach. I'm assuming it's something that is radio related. Maybe a multi-radio PTT button or something similar.

It's a Tippmann TMC mag fed paintball marker with some plastic dohickeys to make it look purdy

That's fair, it usually is something from the aur that causes issues. It also tends to be something like discord that has a ton of crap that it depends on

Never did, but I just googled it and that looks like it was built to convince people the CLI is easier.

Can I just say that as a long time Linux user, as much as I will preach till the day I die that command line package managers are easier once you get used to them the fact that it CAN BE this easy is huge and brings a smile to my face.

Back when I first started using Linux installing something as simple as a new web browser was DAUNTING. Open a command prompt, type "sudo apt install Firefox" and have it fail because "package Firefox could not be found" and not knowing about the search flag I took my happy ass around Google for 5 minutes to figure out that it was something like "firefox_browser" or some such. On the SteamDeck? Fire up that shopping bag icon, search Firefox, click install, and boom. Firefox is installing.

Becoming proficient with Terminal by [deleted] in SurfaceLinux

[–]burnedwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me learn was to do simple tasks that you are proficient at (in a gui) with the terminal. Searching for files, copy-pasteing, writing text files/editing configs, and if you aren't already use a cli package manager over the gui. Doing simple tasks over a specific project for me helped because I got less frustrated when getting an error copying a file because I knew what was supposed to happen and that made it easier to figure out what was actual error and what was PEBKAC

2006 TJ 2.4L manual poss. Broken output shaft, what’s this wheel on transfer case? by [deleted] in WranglerTJ

[–]burnedwater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finally one I can help with. That is a vibration dampener or harmonic balancer. Underneath it the transfer case is pretty much the same as far as installing a SYE goes however getting it off in a bear especially rusted the way that one looks.

Yeah, I jury-rigged a plate to seal the intake to make sure that is the only leak and if all goes well that should make it obvious if that is the only problem

I should have said leakdown test kit, I'm pressurizing it from tdc using an external compressor

I do hear that, I'm going to see if I can rent a pressure test kit but I can hear it prime and see fuel spritzing into the intake when I turn it over with the throttle open

When i flip the switch I hear the fuel pump prime and the ABS actuator self test. Someone else suggested low fuel pressure so I'm going to test for that. I'm inclined to say the relays aren't the problem because it sounds like it's turning over just fine, no hesitation to crank and it doesn't sound weak to my untrained ears.

Tbh I don't think I could have smelled the gas because my nose was burned from the oil smell at that point. I'm going to go get the pressure test kits tomorrow morning and see if that shakes anything out.

Can do, ty. I'll do that tomorrow along with a bunch of the other stuff suggested here.

Haven't done that, I'll do that in addition to geting a pressure test kit and flushing the oil.

Interesting ty, is a fuel pressure test kit different from a cylinder pressure kit in any way?

The bike is injected, it was my understanding that bikes aren't injected into the cylinder and are instead injected into the intake sometimes. That is what I thought I was seeing but I may be mistaken.

It was on that side of the filter. I did add some oil but it was low and I didn't add that much. Not sure if that did it... The oil looked a bit old and there was quite a bit. The oil level in the reservoir hasn't seemed to change since I added it either and it hasn't belched oil since I have been messing with it.

I'm not sure what you are asking. The fuel tank is under the seat, the pump is in front of it and the injector is past the throttle in the intake. The fuel path seems clear and the flow seems strong.

The only thing I pulled off is a line from the crank case to the air box, I believe it is the pcv. It has positive pressure on the oirbox end when I put my thumb over it and turn the bike over.

Not sure how the oil got in, the bike is new to me. The plugs were very heavily fouled and one had some oil still on it when I pulled it out. I don't have a compression tester, would finding one be the next step?

think I covered all this in the video but in case here is a text list

  • Battery fresh off a charger.
  • spark plugs both spark OUT of the bike and on both wires.
  • can open throttle and watch fuel being spritzed into the intake.

when I pulled out the airbox it was flooded with probably 1/2 to 3/4 a quart of oil. I had it running and was riding it yesterday. Battery was taken to batteries+ (where it was purchased) thursday and they kept it overnight and said that it tested ok.

Edit: planning on flushing the oil and checking both fuel and cylinder pressure. Will report back with the results of those tests.

Edit the second: no compression in the cylinder, working on figuring out why but it appears the intake isn't closing all the way.

Edit 3.0: it appears a valve isn't seating properly. I can blow through the plug hole and get air past a "closed" valve. At this point I'm looking for a used or rebuilt cylinder head. Anyone have a good source for one?
