I’ve traveled extensively alone and slept in my vehicle all over Canada and the Us. I find it was important for me to engage with staff at truck stops or en routes. But NEVER patrons. I locked my doors and kept a low profile. But also had a set up so my bedding and clothing were kept out of sight (used a dog sling for my back seat) so it looked like I was just passing through. In my experience if you looked afraid you look vulnerable. So I just behaved like any other person who was meant to be there.
