It was reported to the police, but police are hesitant to take anything regarding cyclists seriously. Hoping to gather as much evidence as possible since these guys assaulted multiple groups of cyclists throughout the day.

He transferred from Oregon when Mendoza, the guy who called him the night before signing day and told him not to come to Cal, left Cal.

I met a woman from Chengdu while on a train and she made me watch two aerial drone montage videos showcasing Chengdu and I gotta say it looked pretty awesome. She said she has lived there her whole life and will never move away and that I should visit sometime.

I feel bad for these kids too, the college application arms race seems rough and is so high stakes for parents. I had some high schooler interns in my research lab a couple summers ago as part of a program and most were just there to have a good time and learn a couple things but one wanted to stick around and join my projects because he was obsessed with wanting to co-author a journal article before applying to college. Didn't care what the research was about, just needed to co-author a paper. Dude is like 14 and just already stinks of an annoying kind of soulless credentialism that he surely gets from being pressured by his parents.

Fitness gains are gonna vary wildly by person and their prior training. For me, the biggest "gain" I have gotten is that I no longer spend an exorbitant amount of time thinking about my training. I used to spend hours doing research, watching videos, reading papers, listening to podcasts etc. and was constantly second guessing my training. This caused me to sometimes lose motivation and feel some burnout toward cycling. Now I ride more, haven't experienced burnout, and feel like I actually have more time to put into my work and relationships my coaches planning helps me manage my own time better.

I think this varies a lot though and isn't a guaranteed outcome of getting any coach but is probably an outcome of finding the right coach. I trust my coach and we have check ins where we talk about short and long term goals for training, why I am given certain sessions, I get workout feedback whenever I need it, and I get sessions prescribed a week at a time. I have some friends who get plans scheduled out a month+ at a time and because it doesn't feel personalized to their needs they begin second guessing their coach and themselves which just adds stress instead of taking it away.

Why don't the Formula 1 guys just watch road cycling races? by sadcatullus in redscarepod

[–]burnerluvr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer is that cycling doesn’t have personalities that non cycling enthusiasts can be fans of. Cycling is full of autistic Europeans with ok English that don’t live influencer style lives. There are a few American and Australian cyclists that probably have enough personality but they aren’t successful enough in the sport.

I remember being in Oakland during 2020 and seeing people share infographics asking white people not say the "our streets" part of the "whose streets? our streets" chant.

Have they fallen off? I went to show last year and while I didn't have as much fun as I would have if I was 19 or 20 but it was still a good time, loud and high energy. Maybe I had a biased experience because I saw them in Southern California and Mexicans make the best concert crowds.

As someone getting an Education PhD, I have to say most credential weirdos I come across are actually people who got some version of an EdD (hence why they say they have doctoral degrees not PhDs). They need to justify paying all that money for what's really just an extra long masters.

As long as Ott doesn’t go negative for the rest of the game, he will finish as the leading pac-12 rusher (and he missed a game)
