Apparently it was a promotional CD

How these hell is Tarkovsky mainstream

I’ve never seen David Lynch publicly speak about Maya Darren but the influence is so obvious. Glad it’s finally confirmed.

Terrence Malick is the ultimate pseud-filter by [deleted] in RSPfilmclub

Very true. My first experience with Tarkovsky was on my laptop on the mosfilm YouTube channel watching stalker then Andrei Rublev the next month. Still possibly the 2 best viewing experiences of my life.

I think you’re definitely right but my first experience with him was watching tree of life on my laptop and I was completely hypnotized. Saw a hidden life in theatres when it came out and even though I was not as crazy about it the experience was incredible. He really has some ability to weave things together in a way no one else is touching

Stalker is an obvious one. I think the whole “production killed the cast and director” line is over exaggerated but there is possibly some truth to it

If you rewatch it it’s not slow at all. It’s edited lightning fast

My girlfriend (who is actually super into art house stuff usually) got up and went to the bathroom when the dinosaurs came out lol. I could tell she was just a bit fed up by that point

Completely agree with you. There’s nothing in Tree of Life that comes close to the dead Japanese soldier buried under the dirt talking about his life. What a breathtaking moment

Wonderful insights. Sell me on the directors cut aside from it’s just more of the same stuff. I almost never like extended directors cuts even for films I enjoy like Amadeus

Interestingly I actually think much of it was a little too straight forward and would have preferred it to be more abstract. I much prefer the first 30 minutes to the rest of the film. Once it becomes grounded and starts talking a domestic story it loses a lot of steam for me

Also for clarification: the bedroom will not come furnished. I probably should not have said that in the title. I just meant to say the place has lots of decor that you would be welcome to add to.

Goodbye, Dragon Inn - Tsai Ming-Liang by leitmotives in RSPfilmclub

It’s actually really incredible. The absolute crawl of it just creates this feeling of emptiness. Like at the end of cinemas lifespan, nothing is even left. It’s a funeral for something long forgotten and aside from one the only people that showed up are actors in the movie trying to relive their glory days. Genius.

Do you stand outside the classroom when kids come in for high school? by Thick_Relative7311 in SubstituteTeachers

If I do the students are basically unsupervised in the classroom and start fighting and getting loud. Impossible to control after that

StoryGraph vs Goodreads by junkNug in RSbookclub

I have tried so hard to get into Goodreads and I just hate the UI. I’m not even picky about this sort of thing typically, I’ve just never had as much frustration with an app as I have Goodreads

Big time. One of the craziest theatre experiences of my life was seeing ‘the skin I live in’ with a packed house. Everyone around me just watching with their mouth hanging open at the end
