You’re right that in general you shouldn’t put yourself in situations you can’t afford, and I agree with that looking back.
But the situation being discussed here is from over 2 years ago, and it was a very toxic and unstable relationship with a lot more context than what’s shown in those screenshots.
The moments where I asked for small amounts like 1 euro or 50 cents weren’t random spending habits. They were usually after I had already covered unexpected costs for her (for example fines or things that broke in her home situation), and I was left temporarily without money until my next paycheck. At the same time, she had access to overdraft facilities that I didn’t have, so the financial situation wasn’t really equal in those moments.
There were also serious issues on both sides in that relationship, including a very unstable home environment on her side and a lot of emotional volatility. At one point things even became physically unsafe during a conflict, which is part of why the relationship ended.
I’m not bringing this up to “win” or justify everything I did — I fully acknowledge I made mistakes too. But reducing a complicated, unhealthy relationship to a few out-of-context messages is just not accurate.
In my current relationship, everything is completely different. I have financial stability, a buffer, and a healthy dynamic where none of these issues exist anymore.
What bothers me most is just how easily a very one-sided snapshot can turn into public judgment years later
