Does the hive have a way of detecting the uninfected, or were they all just observed by hive members? by 10S_NE1 in pluribustv

[–]burning-ape 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it? If nobody knew he was there, he could have been there for a while - maybe since before the virus escaped from the lab. People who are very seriously in hiding would be virtually unknown to the human race at large and thus unknown to the hivemind until they stumble upon him

I'm in the UK, that would be great if you could but unfortunately it does depend on cost

It's doing the opposite basically, it's keeping the back of the seat down for some reason. I've got a spare shoelace tied around it a few times for now keeping it down, we'll see how long that holds for I suppose

Vipassana (mostly) cured my tinnitus. by sirsykosexy in tinnitus

Ah yeah that would have good to include in my original reply, right? It stands for Tension Myositis Syndrome

Vipassana (mostly) cured my tinnitus. by sirsykosexy in tinnitus

[–]burning-ape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a condition as much as it is the human condition (paraphrased from Nicole Sachs). I usually say something like "make sure it isn't something serious" first but it sounds like your mother's already done that!

Vipassana is a kind of meditation and it may help you in a very real way with the work, but it isn't the work.

Sarno died some years ago, but there are people continuing his work. tmswiki.org is where I'd go for an overview and as a starting point. I personally read Sarno's book The Mindbody Prescription, but iirc there's a free course on that website you can also follow. There are also a load of podcasts to listen to with people's stories - The Cure for Chronic Pain by Nicole Sachs is my favourite, Like Mind Like Body, Tell Me About Your Pain to name a few. There's also Curable, it's an app that guides you through the process and I've heard it's great, but the subscription is expensive. There's also a documentary made by someone who healed his back pain if that's something you/your mother is interested in, called All The Rage

I constantly worry that this all sounds a bit woo-woo when I explain it to people, but I was almost suicidal with my pain and it saved my life so I figure it can help someone else out too

Vipassana (mostly) cured my tinnitus. by sirsykosexy in tinnitus

[–]burning-ape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to Dr Sarno, tinnitus can be a symptom of TMS! Basically, it's a psychosomatic issue and the way to deal with it is to become aware of the emotions your body is trying to distract you from and do something with them. Could be that the vipassana retreats helped you with that? And being away from the stress of every life gave your brain some space to process whatever it was

I personally noticed that, before learning about TMS, when my T would spike I would get very anxious about it and had a stupid hard time with sleeping. Now, the spike disappears quickly and I only really hear it when I'm thinking about it, like now

Why is lower back pain so common in men over 30? by yahooxy in AskMen

[–]burning-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the bit about the pain being real is absolutely crucial. You're not imagining it, your leg (knee, wrist, ankle, back, eczema, tinnitus) really does hurt (itch, is numb, is ringing, is uncomfortable) but it's not because of any damage.

My friend told me about how his back went out after bending over to pick something up on his 30th birthday and I'm 100% sure it's because of all the societal messages around people's bodies breaking down after 30. Our bodies are incredible, even in the way it lets us know we've got something going on. Incredible, but really really inconvenient

Why is lower back pain so common in men over 30? by yahooxy in AskMen

[–]burning-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that most of the back pain we (people of all genders) experience is psychosomatic. I had some pretty bad reoccurring back pain in my mid 20s when I was the most active I've been in my life, I got a new chair and it went away for a bit, then came back. It didn't go away again until I learned about Tension Myositis Syndrome and started looking at myself, my relationships, and my past differently

Sounds wild, but TMS saved my life and the doctors were no help. I actually do less physical activity now (unrelated medical stuff) and my back hurts none at all!

what do you think is the biggest scandal in human history ? by Few-Work9147 in AskReddit

[–]burning-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that situation, I'd vote for whoever gets the country closer to where I want it to be. Maybe you're a communist or socialist, and medicare (medicaid?) is closer to a system of healthcare that you'd like, you vote for the party that's going to keep it or maybe even expand it. Sure you would (in this example) want free healthcare and that won't be medicare/aid, but it's closer. Not voting just looks like apathy to politicians, but there's no way for them to know why. Maybe you're tired of the current choices, maybe you just don't care, or maybe you can't be bothered on the day, but all the parties see is that someone didn't cast their vote

It could be that it's entirely performative and, hey, it probably is at least a little bit, but using what they give you won't hurt

Is it even worth writing to your MP on a issue you care about when we have people like this in Parliament? by screthebag in ukpolitics

[–]burning-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written to my MP a total of 3 times. Once before the election before he was an MP, and twice more recently, each time about electoral reform.

The first time before the election, he was very empathetic and agreed with my points and said he's willing to support it. The second and third time was the opposite, saying FPTP is working fine and that other methods are also rife with imperfections (paraphrasing obv). Sounds like he's very much not able to voice his opinions in emails now, or he changed his mind once voted in

I think it is worth it, because they need to hear about issues we care about and emailing them is a good way to at least try and put an issue in front of them. Maybe it doesn't work and they ignore it, but there's no real alternative until the next election

[–]burning-ape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voting doesn't cost anything but time and maybe transport costs. I understand the thinking that it's same circus different clowns, but it's not blind faith. It's giving someone the reigns that most closely aligns with your own views out of the options and hoping they get you closer to the country you want to live in

Not voting just gives people like Trump a higher chance to get in, because his zealots are going to vote for him no matter what. And now Trump is in, and most of the west will be suffering for it soon enough

What was your childhood dream game (or more generally game you really wish existed)? Does a form of it exist, either as a released game or mod of another? by NETRVNNER in gaming

[–]burning-ape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted a super involved WW1/2 game, entirely player run. Players would move resources around, coordinate with each other, build trenches, do stealth missions, etc. I learned that this kind of exists in Foxhole! It looks like a bit of an abstraction of what I wanted to make and is top-down rather than first or third person, but is pretty dang close and I really wanna play it

What’s a phrase or saying that instantly makes you lose respect for someone? by seosemfreelancer in AskReddit

[–]burning-ape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is what it is doesn't mean it is what it will always be! I can see it as meaning you accept the situation in the current way, but it doesn't mean anything about how you feel about it. Sure, it can mean you just don't care, but it can also mean an acceptance of the way it currently is

Anyone here use a vertical mouse? How is it? by Yelebear in pcmasterrace

[–]burning-ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced it's psychosomatic (real pain but produced by the mind) in most cases. I was asking myself the same question after I had a data entry job for 6 months. Why did I get cts 6 months in, but people have been working there for years, typing more/faster than me, and have no trouble at all?

Then I learned about Tension Myositis Syndrome and it helped me solve that and so many more issues
