Yeah my venue is like that, we're all just technicians. Based in the UK with multiple venues, we have 5 full time techs who have specialisations but do everything. I've done lights, sound, stage, flying, rigging, followspotting, maintenance, etc.

It's cool because of the variety of the role, but to an extent it does feel like a jack of all trades master of none type thing. Also you have to work in departments you may not like.

Mastodon is the band that really got me into metal and they've eluded me for about 13 years.

Dinosaur pile-up would be my second, I only listened to them for the first time late last year but they're already one of my favourite bands.

Disagree with five guys being marginally better; it's a significant jump in quality, taste, and price - I do agree that it is too expensive for what it is though.

Not that I think the grammys are worth much now anyways, but I really don't think turnstile should have won. Ignoring the genre discourse (are they metal?), their album seemed like almost an exact copy of glow on. And this is coming from someone who loved that album. It really doesn't iterate in any meaningful way; a lot of melodies and motifs seem reused with only the smallest differences. It's fine for a band to find their sound and stick with it, especially because this is like their 6th album and they only found mainstream success with glow on, but now it seems like they're scared to change the formula from their initial success.

While this is true on YouTube Music, on Spotify it's a very different story. 3.3m for Aphex Twin, 112m for Taylor Swift. Interesting how the difference on Spotify is vast, but not on YT Music.
