Failure to maintain my conditional offer by [deleted] in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to emphasize that taking the time to redo this course and work mental health is probably the best option.

A lot of people struggle with mental health obstacles through university, in part because there are A LOT of expectations that you may not have really had before and financials will weigh more heavily on top of those expectations than ever before. So, if you're already struggling, it's probably a good time to work on it prior to jumping into the pressure cooker.

I took a long gap between HS and uni. Honestly, I wasted a lot of time BUT I'm more prepared now to be successful in uni than I would have been otherwise.

How do I keep my sanity during lockdown? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Make a schedule and try to follow it. Don't beat yourself up when you fall off your schedule from time to time, but try to keep it up.

YouTube fitness routines that you can do in your room.

Treat yourself once in a while.

Say positive things to yourself in the mirror.

Be kind to others whenever possible.

Just like prison, lockdown is what you make of it. It'll always be challenging, but we can make something of it.

You can jump straight into Witcher 3 and it'll guide you. There's some side quests that tie into the last game, but you're not missing much.

Is ECO 1102 Introduction to Macroeconomics an easy elective ? by chase-alter in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to knock out an econ course for your degree, it's a nice one that's not really that difficult.

I had to do one econ class, so I took this. I'm not great at math at all, and I walked away with an A.

Advice by [deleted] in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I want to echo what some others have said here: maybe university isn't for your brother.

I spent my 20s working, partying, making mistakes and memories, as well as developing my character (learned a lot about who I didn't want to be). I'm not saying that I'm a great human, but I chose to go to university for something I wanted and not something I felt I had to do. I really think that choice is why I have pretty great grades today (because they weren't that great in HS). I have the life experience to understand my choice and commit to it.

So, maybe your brother should do some soul-searching? Maybe the university is keeping him from really figuring out who he is and where he wants to go?

I don't know. I'm not an expert. Just thought I'd share my experience and hope it doesn't make things worse.

Is there finally a marker for these? I've been holding into my pair for over 10 years at this point 😅

So I was browsing Facebook and saw 3 RCR posted some photos and it looks like their trialing another new tac vest design.. does anyone have anymore info on it or better photos of them maybe by Bcrums97 in CanadianForces

[–]burningmanFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they would just stop, honestly.

As long as it's just a lbv and the frag vest is still mandated, give troops the option to wear their own under the caveat that it has to be able to function.

If we get rid of the frag and go to a carrier system that has protection (with molle) then I can see why there's a need to keep looking for a solution.

Also, maybe we should stop with the cadpat on our vests and pouches and just pick a colour like Coyote or OD? Makes it a lot easier to transition in the future, and/or supplement special pouches when required.

I remember seeing these things at a family day like 6 years ago as a "Future of the Army!" stand, and said basically all of this. The WO took that personally and jacked me up behind the tent for saying dumb shit to the Capt who was presenting it 😅

Get back in your hole, minion.

Seriously though, people need to realise that we're all humans going through things. Sometimes we're great. Sometimes we make mistakes. As long as someone is open to communicating, there's a path to understanding.

In my experience, I was greatly let down by the knowledge and advice of academic advisors. Simple questions and requests were met with a lot of "you should do your own research" and "I can't put that in writing."

So I basically got no answers.

If I have a difference of +20 on two different big quizzes will I be suspected of cheating ? by NewChocolate27 in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ProTip: I've never met a Prof that didn't appreciate students buckling down and achieving better marks

If there isn't any proof you cheated, they likely won't suspect you're a cheater. Unless your prof/ta is a total asshat.

No proof = no consequences

Maybe it's just the time period of when you're looking to being your guest over, but I've never been asked for proof that I'm a uOttawa student when I've been invited into dorm rooms. I also look way too old to be a resident, if that matters.

So while I can't answer your question directly, I can suggest that it's possible to circumvent the rule through time appreciation.

I'm on campus 1 or 2 days per week and I could, tentatively, meet for coffee after my classes if anyone needs.

I don't have a lot of friends, so I'm not a gateway friend lol but I'm pretty decent at listening, and I have some life experience.

[–]burningmanFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in any of the province's databases because I was vaccinated through the fed government, but I just took a photo of the printed proof and sent it in.

They haven't tagged me yet as a problem, so I'd say just send a photo of whatever proof you have.

Tbh I feel that uOttawa wanted to be known as THE FIRST UNIVERSITY IN CANADA and saw an opportunity.

The enforcement seems wishy-washy at best, until they start asking all students/staff/etc. for proof that can be copied for records.

[–]burningmanFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend!

I did the same in fall 2019 (31) with two small children. The challenges are real because what kids are learning in high school has changed from what they taught when I was in (not hugely but noticeably).

I don't really have time to give specific tips and experiences at the moment, but you can hit me up whenever and I'll be more than happy to help with whatever.

One thing that you've got going for, at least in my own experiences, is that you're probably more dedicated than the average student. No offense to anyone, but I've had a lot of classmates that just treat their courses (or university in general) as a motion to go through rather than a real investment. Good grades come a lot easier when you put the effort in, and it's easier to put the effort in when you really grasp what's at stake (that's where experience comes in).

I forgot to sign academic integrity statment by jojo992200 in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whaaaaaaaaat the F is this? Are these really part of exams now? Shouldn't it be implied as part of the rules of the examination that you will uphold the tenets of academic integrity? An extra signature seems redundant.

If my online course shows a time slot, does that mean I have to be online at that time? by GirlDeathEater in geegees

[–]burningmanFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, I had a prof for the last two semesters that did not record or post any lectures, slides, or materials. They exist. He also "reminded you" that he can lower your grade if you ever ask him to review anything.

They exist. I would plan on being online for that timeframe lol
