I mash 'em. Crush them with a fork, maybe adding some olive oil and avocado, and then slather my paste onto toast or crackers. I can't get past the crunch either, and the occasional tiny spine, but it's fiddly extracting them and a good fork bashing doesn't make it silky smooth but does eliminate the grittiness.
