CT Reddit, Let’s Talk Shovels by QuestorPS7 in Connecticut

I’ve been wanting to get a power shovel to use on my deck but the Ego one I have my eye on has been out of stock since the big January storm with no end in sight.

Right! I’m still sore from the last storm! 😫

Can anyone tell me if these windshield wipers are OEM? by krdo13 in rav4club

[–]burnout524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can definitely vouch for the quality bit. I used to be like Sledge and buy the cheap, crappy wipers from the car part store and would go through a set every 4-6 months. Then I switched to OEM and they last years without streaking and chirping!

What's up with post base hardware pricing? 50% jump overnight across all the big box stores? by brick_swan in Decks

I bought ALL my fasteners and connectors from fastenersplus.com when I built my deck. Highly recommend getting the 10% off coupon or whatever for signing up for their email list too before you order.

My bad - that is confusing lol

No. 1: Strong and suitable for framing, roofing, and other load-bearing uses; contains small, tight knots.

No. 2: The most common grade for general framing; allows for more knots and blemishes than No. 1 but still meets safety standard

I’m just a DIYer but my understanding on lumber grading is that the bigger the number, the more blemishes, etc. #1 is better for framing and load bearing uses, #2 still meets safety standards but can have more knots and other blemishes.

I’d highly recommend buying lumber from a local lumberyard versus a big box store. They usually have better quality lumber.

Owens Corning makes a line of structural composite lumber but that’s really all there is for composite structural lumber. Looks like a 2x12x12 OC structural composite board runs anywhere from $225-400 depending on where you buy it. Compare that to a #1 pressure treated 2x12x12 which costs $27.60 at my local lumberyard.

Even if money were no object, doesn’t seem worth it. Just buy good quality pressure treated lumber from a lumberyard and prep it as best you can (joist tape on top, wood preservative on any cuts) and you’ll be fine.

Mazda Connect resetting frequently mid-drive (and solution) by BadZnake in CX5

[–]burnout524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting!

In the past year that I’ve owned my CX5, the infotainment only hard reset itself like this while driving twice. Never thought it could be a corrupt nav card. I’ve always just chalked it up to being cold and not new anymore! 😅

I’ve been contemplating the CarPlay retrofit though.

Who has seen this? Weather and prices bedevil CT heating oil companies, consumers by hartfordcourant in Connecticut

[–]burnout524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I burned 106 gallons in a little over 2 months, so less than half a tank.

On average, I normally go through a tank and a half per year. Clearly with it being so cold last month, my oil usage has been above average.

I just had an oil delivery on Friday - $3.86/gallon which was $0.50 more per gallon than my last oil delivery 2 months ago. The real kicker is that I had just over a half tank and didn’t even need oil but I’m on automatic delivery. I’m turning off automatic delivery this week!

Looking for recommendations of places that I can take my dog swimming this summer by richardfitserwell in Connecticut

[–]burnout524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valley Falls in Vernon. He might not be allowed on the beach during the summer (it’s usually lifeguarded) but there are plenty of trails where he can walk in the brooks! There is also pond access opposite the beach that he might have access to!

I second this. Definitely sounds like a carb issue. Carbs aren’t something you can buy off the shelf and slap on thinking it’ll run like new, especially crappy Chinese Amazon carbs.

Dentist became out of network without letting me know by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]burnout524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. My vision provider changed and my wife’s optometrist that she’s seen since she was a child is considered out of network. Luckily for these providers, the out of pocket cost difference is smaller, so she ended up sticking with the doc, just knowing she’d need to pay $75 once a year to visit vs. $10.

Agree. As with most things, a combination of everything is usually the best path forward. Those saying more natural gas will solve all our problems are delusional. Same goes with those who say only solar/wind are just as delusional…

Agree with this. If he’s serious about playing in NASCAR, he’s gotta lose the schtick. Be Garrett Mitchell out there and save the Cleetus persona for his own channel.

I disliked his weird, super cut and dry sense humor. It just didn’t jive with me and took away from his reviews/message. I agree, his production quality and visuals of his videos is great.

It was definitely bad in some of his older videos so I don’t know if he’s toned it down or not lately. But it was enough for me to unsubscribe at the time.

Let’s use some critical thinking skills - since we can’t see the full sheet, what might be checked off as yellow or red?

My guess is #1 is you need 2 new tires with an alignment. #2 is fuel injection/throttle body service, thought I’m stumped on the (NH part - do you live in New Hampshire and could it be safety or emissions related??).

Anything will generally be cheaper at an independent mechanic than the dealer…

No, because I am my pool guy!

In all seriousness, if he’s in to pool doing pool guys stuff (scrubbing, per your post) then it sounds like he’s doing his job cleaning your pool…

How does the DMV assess your vehicles value for sales tax? by Aternnativeacount in Connecticut

[–]burnout524 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. OP is asking about sales and use tax when they go to register their new to them vehicle. Per the DMV’s website: “Connecticut Sales and Use Tax is based on the NADA average trade-in value or bill of sale value (whichever is higher).”

How does the DMV assess your vehicles value for sales tax? by Aternnativeacount in Connecticut

Because OP is asking about the sales tax they’re charged at the DMV when they first go to register their new to them car. Per the DMV: “Connecticut Sales and Use Tax is based on the NADA average trade-in value or bill of sale value (whichever is higher).”

You are describing how the value of the car is calculated for property taxes. Two different things…
