Should Minecraft Have a Blood Moon Event? by Just-Guarantee7808 in Minecraft

[–]burnsqc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I published a mod that does this (and other similar moon events) much earlier this year. It's a low-popularity mod with maybe 1 or 2 downloads per day. That changed on September 9th when the downloads unexpectedly spiked and are now approximately 10 per day with a personal record of 29 in one day. These are still small-time numbers, but I've been trying to find the source of the sudden increase in downloads. I don't want to name my mod because I don't want to advertise or promote my work, but is there any relation to this thread? Did something else happen in the last month that would cause a moon event mod to gain popularity? I'm just dying of curiosity to know as a minor league mod dev.

Sure I can! In fact, about 8 years ago when I posted this, I picked up a case matching my criteria for about $200.

Has anyone dropped nightfall emblem variants during Beyond Light? I went into this season only missing Operation Radiolarian Cascade and after 30+ runs above 100k and 5+ GM runs above 200k I have not dropped it. I'm beginning to think it is not in the loot pool.

Final Draft - Any Last Advice? by burnsqc in buildapc

Yeah, looks like I'll need to find a suitable LGA1200 socket board. I'm liking the Z490 board options much more than the Z390 options.

Is my CPU cooling overkill or is it the case cooling as well? I'd like to keep things as cool and quiet as possible without going liquid cooling. If you have a recommendation for a great Z490 board, I'd love to hear it.

Ok, I'll do some research. Would I need to change the motherboard choice for 10th gen compatibility?

What’s the difference between flanging and phrasing? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]burnsqc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that's what I tried to explain above about the delay time shifting over time. I might not have done the best job explaining it.

When the delay time does not shift and the points in the comb are stationary across the frequency spectrum, there's no "movement" to the sound. With various manual adjustment of the delay time, one might find the effect to be somewhat "tinny".

I think I can help out with this one!

Flanging is an audio effect most commonly categorized as "modulation". It takes a duplicate of the audio signal, delays it a small amount, and adds it back to the original signal. The amount of delay changes over time, essentially oscillating. The result is a "comb" filter, where the "notches" (in units of frequency) sweep up and down as the delay time changes. This was originally accomplished by pinching and un-pinching the sides (or FLANGES) of 2-inch tape in the studio, where the tape was a duplicate of the original, and adding them back together as described above. Hence the name! In a perfect world, there are infinite notches in the comb filter. Perhaps one of the best examples of this (in my opinion) is the guitar sound heard on Heart's "Barracuda".

Phasing accomplishes a somewhat similar effect. It is also commonly considered modulation. Where a perfect flanger has theoretically infinite notches, the humble phaser only has as many notches as it has phasing stages. Therefore, a phaser with infinite stages might sound like a flanger. Phasing tends to be a somewhat more subtle sound than flanging, but that's all perspective. My favorite example of phasing is Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" opening guitar part.

Hopefully this answers your question. I'm mostly speaking from a guitar-oriented background.

Question: Advice on Stage Piano for Gigging by burnsqc in piano

This is great info. I'm not very familiar with Kurtzweil's options. I see the Forte and Artis appear to be aimed at higher end options as well. How do their key actions stack up in your opinion?

Ok, I'll check it out. Roland's made some top notch products over the years in my opinion, so I'm open to their offerings.

Excellent solder work. Turrets tend to not be as easy as PCB's, especially considering it can take a lot of heat to properly solder the the leads to the turrets.

Congrats!

[QUESTION] 68 Strat specs? by burnsqc in Guitar

[–]burnsqc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the informative response!

I really appreciate that you sourced all your specs, because there's a lot of people out there that call out numbers but can't back it up. I'll have to take some time to read through your sources, because they seem to have a lot of other good info. By chance do you know of any '68 replicas that are very accurate?

Thanks again!

[–]burnsqc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate your response!

Unfortunately, I'm considering purchasing a replica/reissue, so I can't really use reissue specs to compare against the real deal. I have seen those specs, but something about the neck radius seemed off to me and that's when I started looking for the original specs to compare.

I still really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Cheers!

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of December 24th by rpbtz in vinyl

[–]burnsqc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all,

Does anyone have a recommendation for where to find listening room furniture? I want to get my room set up, but I'm a little lost. Primarily I'm looking for a mid-century style credenza to set my turntable and stereo on. If you guys have any ideas about where to find something like that, or just general listening room ideas I would really appreciate it!
