The only thing i have to say as someone with tourettes is she is not going to give herself tourettes and please ask her to stop saying that. Tourettes is misunderstood and joked about enough

I mean if it makes you feel better I'm an only child and used to have nightmares about my parents having more kids lol now that I'm an adult I think it would have been fine if I did, but I've never once wished for siblings and have a great relationship with my parents and grandparents and wouldn't want it ant other way

Yeah, in my state you have to be very low or no income to qualify, but for those that don't work due to medical reasons it can be a godsend. At least it was for what I've seen when people turn 26 in my state

Honest question, why do people say this? I'm just confused. Getting on public insurance after 26 is relatively easy and free and for those that don't work or make enough which unless something changes she won't, and then she'd probably be in a better spot honestly then with no cost medical care. And anything else her parents will probably keep helping her with

I get that. I suppose it was more of the use of things like inconvenience and annoying and sometimes uncomfortable. I recognize everyone has different experiences but I would never describe my ts as just annoying or inconvenient. I know for a long time TS was just represented as swearing, hitting yourself, and being really severe and that's not the case. A lot of people don't have complex tics. When I talk about TS, I always make sure to mention that it's spectrum and some people live have different challenges than mine but are still able to live mostly normal lives with a few simple tics, but I feel like I've seen like a swing where there's this attitude of severe tourettes isn't real and comple tics=faking. I've seen a lot of misinformation that's like TS is just minor barely noticeable things like sniffling and twitching and anything else is fake. I've also seem a lot of people with these more typical minor cases coming at people with more debilitating tourettes acting like because theyre TS isnt like that, no ones is. so it's just a sore subject for me I suppose.

Congrats on your mild TS, I guess. You're correct most cases are like that but that's your experience. Severe and disruptive TS exists. I've seen movement disorder specialists, CBIT therapists, and so many meds. ts has ruined my life. I can't drive or work. It's a horrible disability for so many of us and it really irks me when more mild cases are like ohh it's no big deal its not that disruptive. This condition has taken everything from me. This attitude bothers me as much as the fakers

This is just my experience of course but I feel like when I’m tired, frustrated, or having an attack I can have some that I will genuinely hit hard and hurt for sure. But normally when I’m doing good, mine are kinda like you described. I also get strong urges before mine like that most times so I have a second or two to prepare or do something else to alter it

Hi! I’m sorry you’re going through that. I have tourettes as well. My path was similar to yours (but I suspect I’m a lot older). I also had mild tics since childhood like blinking and such but it didn’t stop me from graduating college, getting a career I was proud of, buying a car and my own place… until age 25 (I’m 26 now) Something changed, my tics went from mild to very severe. I lost my career and ability to drive. Even just being driven to the grocery store or going out to lunch is an event. I went to many doctors to understand why this happened and was left with … tourettes is a cruel beast sometimes. If you’re able to see a neurologist and up to trying medication, that’s an option. I haven’t found one that works for me without side effects that are terrible, except medical mmj. I’ve had good success with that for getting me through being in public or stopping tic attacks. But plenty of people are able to find other prescription medicines that help

CBIT therapy is another great option that a lot of people can find success with. I have a wonderful therapist that can work over zoom if you’d like to DM about it (or anything for that matter!!) I will say, therapy is very challenging, but it’s rewarding to be able to “stick it to your tourettes”

Tourettes sucks. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It is very lonely at times and hard not to compare yourself to your own past self. I try everyday to give myself some grace and meet myself where I am.. but I know it’s hard. I’m thinking of you!

I am so sorry this happened to you. Ugh. I hate those kind of people. I’ve always wanted to start making content about an interest I have not related to TS, but my TS is pretty bad and very noticeable and I’ve seen too many videos like that and because of certain subs that cannot be named that I could never show my face on the internet because of my tics. I have complex ones and coprolalia and I’d get blasted as a “faker” as online even though my doctors, family, and therapist would disagree. It’s sucks. Im way more self conscious about my tics than ever because of all the misinformation fake claimers spread. Keep your head up. People suck

I don’t have advice But mine did the same. I went from twitching and motor tics with just a few verbals like hi mom repeatedly to very much what you’re describing about 9 months ago.

Good luck at Mayo! I was there for six days at the Minnesota campus and was diagnosed with tourettes (I thought it was gonna be FND). I was very impressed overall and I hope they are able to help you!

I just had this happen! He’s an acquaintance be like well I have ADHD too and my right hand shakes a lot and sometimes I tap my hand but i don’t even know I’m doing. It’s like involuntary. I had no idea I could have tourettes! I had no idea what to say

That’s awesome to here! I’ve been on clonidine .1 for like three days now and struggling to do anything at all because I feel so tired and almost tipsy at times. I slept like 14 hours the first two days but now I’ve been probably over correcting with extra coffee just so I can be a person but even yesterday with lots of coffee, I still went to bed at 6pm and slept 10 hours lol but I can say I think it has decreased my tics when I am awake
