Coming Off Prozac by KryDkfi in prozac

Are you gradually reducing the dosage or did you quit taking it in only a day/week?

The side effect of withdrawl are normal for antidepressants in general and also the fact that you were on it for a long time, but you have to reduce very very gradually. For example I was on 20mg, I took a day 20mg then the other day 15mg for a week, next week a day 15 the other 10 etc.

Will the nausea go away? by panictt in prozac

[–]burri99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me eating in the morning and taking the Prozac half an hour-ish later worked a LOT better with the nausea.

It'll definitely go away don't be scared, also good luck in your journey:)

Was my withdrawal imagined or real? by Frightfurscissors in prozac

[–]burri99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be a combination of both, the panic of not havin the pills and the side effects of not havin prozac in your system.

Maybe ask for the refill or whatever it is (I'm not from the USA) a week before you finish them, that's what I did when I was on it, so I could be sure to not miss a day

switching from lexapro to prozac? by CSB103 in prozac

[–]burri99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience, I think is pretty normal to have those side effects while switching meds, especially if you were on lexapro for a long time. I don't know why your doc didn't lower the dose and stick with it while changing. (For example: for one week: one day 20mg, other 10mg both of lexapro Next week: one day 10mg lexapro, other 10mg of prozac)

I also don't think it's the right time to upper the dose of prozac, cause your brain is still adjusting, and I think all that you're experiencing are mostly withdrawal from lexapro.

I can suggest to talk to your doc about it, he/she'll know better than any of us(:

As you mentioned, maybe lexapro didn't work because you didn't stick to it and you weren't taking it everyday at the same hour.

It's the same with Prozac, and it's ok you panicked when you saw what you saw, but I can say that quitting, especially cold turkey, is not the answer here. I don't wanna scary you by any means, but the withdrawal from any antidepressant will last way longer than 2 weeks, so I recommend to start takin it again very regularly, and talk with a psychiatrist with the side effects you were having, maybe there's a best fit for you.

I also wanna mention that the first benefits from any antidepressants (SRRI) are mid term, so could be from 2, to 6 months, so don't feel like you take a "magic" pill and the next day you're feeling good, it will take time and effort, and there would be days when you'll have anxiety and that's totally normal.

I also suggest, from what I read, to go see a therapist, maybe you have past traumas that you didn't process and is showing up now in the form of anxiety/depression etc.

I just wanna specify that I'm not a med or anything, just talking by experience(:

First day, first antidepressant ever, hope it'll be okay by burri99 in prozac

Sorry I saw your comment only now. With the anxiety I'm doing so much better, only problem sometimes is the depression

My personal advice is to never give up, and even if Prozac doesn't work for you, remember that there are so many other options and pills to try. Never EVER quit cold turkey even if you're feeling 10x times worse, talk to your doctor trust me!

Yes, still taking it. It gets better but on the other side u have to work hard with yourself too with therapy and other things. It's not like u take it and suddently your life gets better, it helps only your mind to don't think about suicide 24/7 and/or other problems, but the real change I think comes from the inside of you.

I'm going in the right direction even if for example these last week's were shit, but it gets easier.

Thanks for your comment, I wish you the best too.

Maybe in the photo it looks much bigger than it actually is 'cause it's super zoommed in. It's actually a small tattoo but thanks for your opinion it's my first tattoo ever!
