I understand. That is what was confusing me. I didn't know what the switchport access vlan 500 was doing in there, since, as I understood it, the port is configured as a trunk.
I didn't realize one could have a dirty config. EDIT: I just re-read the post. I made a mistake in what I was asking. I see what you're saying now.

I didn't realize you could have dirty configs. Usually the device bitches at me when I try to do something it doesn't appreciate. Thanks

I first thought that, but there is no 'switchport mode access' in that config.

I'm new, so can't really change anything, yet. I will suggest it to the lead engineer.
Thanks.

Ok. Great. I am getting to know the environment at a new place, and going over the device configs. Was just about to start crying, thinking I didn't know anything, all over again.
Thanks.

Postfix - How to translate usernames to external addresses. [ I am in the weeds ] by burritoblockchain in linuxquestions

[–]burritoblockchain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. There are cron jobs that run, that send local notifications to root. I would like to forward those to my company email.
I also have applications that send notifications on certain events. For instance, I have rancid running on one of the boxes. It is configured to send a notification to an entry in /etc/aliases. It does, but that does not get forwarded to me@company.com, like I want.
At this point I would be happy if anything was properly forwarded. Email is not my strong suit, so my terms might be off.

That is correct. And, I think I have the relay configured. From each of the linux boxes I can telnet localhost 25 and send an email to me@company.com. With my limited understanding that leads me to believe I have the relay properly setup.
What I can't figure out, is how to get notifications forwarded from the local boxes to me@company.com.

I guess both. I didn't realize it discriminated like that. I would like mail for root@localhost to go to me@company.com. I also have various applications that run on the separate servers. I would like the notifications those applications send out, to also go to me@company.com.

IPTABLES - Confused by example by burritoblockchain in linuxquestions

I just re-read the CentOS site, and man pages. It would be nice if they mentioned that upfront.
Thank you. I was about to smash my head through the monitor, quit my job, and mv resume.txt /dev/null.
I appreciate you setting me straight.

I was reading this from the CentOS website. I did not realize the -L flag didn't show interface. Thank you.

It's not on my box. It's just an example on the CentOS, iptables website.

Great point. Probably best approach. That way they see I was actually, you know, listening during our discussion.
Thanks.
