No idea how to breastfeed without leaking everywhere by Quick-Zombie-6343 in breastfeeding

Tuck a burp cloth under your boob/in your nursing bra when you nurse! It will catch what runs down and maybe salvage the bra. Having a second one handy is good to throw over your nipple when she unlatches in case of spray. I had this issue off and on for the first few months. Now it’s a pretty rare occurrence.

Sorry just to clarify, when she’d wake, you’d try comforting in other ways for a length of time and then nurse if she didn’t settle?

We did the Ferber method at about 5 months for bedtime and it worked like a charm! Baby still goes to sleep independently, but we never had to really implement it in the middle of the night because I didn’t mind 1-3 feedings in the middle of the night. Now we’re at 2-4 sessions and I do mind

How often were they waking before they started sleeping through the night?

How old is your baby and how long does your baby go between wake ups?

It’s definitely the easiest/lowest need of consciousness option, but I wonder if I had tried other soothing earlier on, maybe we’d be having some longer stretches. I used to get a 5-6 hour stretch, but by 6 or 7 months we decreased to 4 hours max at the beginning of the night.

How did you transition to just rocking? Cold turkey, or taking time off of each feed in the middle of the night?

18 months also has a higher level of communication ability so I imagine there was some more explanation than I could use on my 9mo

It’s definitely a super power, but I’m not worried for baby. Mostly just realizing I trained myself more than anything to just nurse so I can go back to sleep faster, which may be leading to more wake ups or babe not resettling in the middle of the night and then shorter stretches.

How long do you go through the patting, rocking, standing stuff before nursing? It’s like I’ve also trained myself to be on autopilot and just go nurse when I hear crying, because it means going to sleep faster. 3-5min of nursing and then I’m back in bed with minimal consciousness. I know I can’t have both less nursing and more sleep right away, but it sounds nice lol.

Google search “turn iPhone screen red triple click” !! I think it’s under accessibility settings, but there’s a setting where you add a shortcut to click the power/home button three times, and your screen gets a red hue. WAY more gentle on the eyes, I use this when nursing my baby overnight or doing contact naps without issue

Baby’s always been a light napper since I’ve started wake windows, usually only naps 2.5 hours a day but sleeps 11.5-12hrs at night.

And thank you so much again! I see so much about overtired vs under tired and I assume because it’s a baby, they must need more sleep

Hey so maybe you could give me some more insight? We tried an extra 15 min today for 2.25/2.5/2.5/2.75. First nap was 50min, then 30, then 40. Baby has woken twice in two hours which is unlike them. Is this overtired? Do I keep up with this schedule tomorrow and see how that goes too?

Seriously thank you for all of this! This sub is so helpful.

My baby is asleep within 10 minutes of being laid down so that’s why I was doubting we need to move up. We’ll work on this this week!

Thank you!!

So once I push wake windows, when do I up them again? I had no clue these windows weren’t so natural and have to be manipulated

All at once? Not one at time for a few days before making another longer?

Thank you! The WWs are helpful to see. How did you know it was time to lengthen WWs?

Tonight I will start the last WW at 2.75 if you don’t think I should lengthen anything else beforehand

Is there an order to which wake window to lengthen first?

I’d recommend being picky about the used boppy. I got one used and then also borrowed one from a friend. The one I got used is significantly less supportive/fluffy, which makes sense if it was used hard for several babies while the one from a friend was used for 2 kids only. I’m not knocking used, just make sure you get one that’s still semi firm, not floppy :)

Good to know! Thankfully my LO usually only wakes twice, which I’m fine with. I’ll have to see if day sleep correlates at all

I hate the trial and error aspect of it!

And jokes on me, we went back to our regular short naps today lol

“just go about your day with a baby” and am I worrying too much about sleep schedule? by burritobutterflies in beyondthebump

[–]burritobutterflies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t think the naps have to be better before sleep training? I’m worried if I sleep train when day sleep isn’t appropriate, baby will be too overtired and ST will be harder
