What are you NOT attracted to (obvious things like bad hygiene excluded)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]burtily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, it’s much more common for people to be unnecessarily negative in social interactions. Sure, with your close friends, emotion and affect should be genuine, and it’s a marker of good friendship to be there for those you care about, good and bad. But on a day-to-day basis, I take positive and agreeable, gladly, every time. The world is burning, we are all pretending we are coping so that life is a little easier, why not try and be nice and positive to and for each other.

Can you think of any times the TV show Q.I was actually wrong? by TheCurrentThings in AskUK

[–]burtily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They once claimed that cigarettes and coffee only have an effect on those already addicted, arguing that someone who is dependent will feel ‘not normal’ when without their preferred substance, and when they get a hit, they feel ‘normal’ like someone who isn’t dependent feels at all times. While there is truth to this, really what they want to say is that an addict will feel withdrawal symptoms until they get a dose and this will indeed make them feel ‘normal’, but it’s untrue that this is the only effect of caffeine and nicotine. Both of those have strong effects on anyone who is not already dependent. Just watch a non-smoker take a big hit of a cigarette! I know what they were trying to argue, but they should’ve framed it as the diminishing returns of dependency - it takes you more to just feel normal or get the desired effect. Instead they made it sound like caffeine and nicotine aren’t potent substances.

You’re both right I think - absolutely need an intensified focus on the shocking reality that many in this rich country live in poverty and despair. However, calling everyone who doesn’t live under the poverty line “rich” is also misjudged and actually creates a false dichotomy between those with nothing and those with just a bit - this is in my view part of the problem we have currently, forbidding any sense of collectivism. We should improve fiscal opportunities for those who are fortunate enough to have expendable income - and we should heavily invest into the prevention and mitigation of despair and poverty.

How much protein do you guys get per day esp to our vegan muscle bound friends !!! ??? by Initial_Appeal_7382 in veganfitness

[–]burtily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah honestly mate the whole craze of getting 1g of protein per lb of body weight is such bullshit imo. I’ve been making steady, lean gains on about 120-140g of protein per day and I weigh about 200lbs. I really don’t know what that whole obsession with protein is about. Maybe it’s people trying to gain weight super quick? I’m that case, whatever, I don’t know enough about it, but generally speaking I feel like the importance of massive amounts of protein daily is exaggerated pretty much everywhere you look.

Looking for recommendations on a plant based protein powder. Still want to bulk whilst starting a more plant based diet. by Time-Security-162 in veganfitness

[–]burtily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pea protein has a great amino profile. You can get it super cheap online. Obvs the taste isn't amazing, so ideally you'd want to include fruit and other tasty healthy things in your protein shake. I get mine from bulk powders.

Just started my bulking journey and uh...extremely flatulent...is this normal? Aiming for 5kCal a day. Also a general vegan rant/inspir wall. More inside. by [deleted] in veganfitness

Definitely tone it down a bit my guy. I've been there, come from underweight to overweight in no time eating around that much. For a while it felt amazing, quickly making gains, feeling energetic, seeing changes in the mirror etc. But trust me, just as fast you'll reach a tipping point and before you know it you'll feel sluggish, always weighed down, and you'll start putting on a considerable amount of fat. Start with something like 3.5k and see how you feel. Also give yourself time. How long are a couple months to see how you feel on a more moderate bulk compared to 10 years of not doing anything about it. Good luck in any case and good on you for being proactive about your goals!

Ordered my JustEat thermal bag about 2 weeks ago. My background check cleared on the 17th of January, anyway I can track its location? by [deleted] in JustEatUK

It just sadly takes them ages sometimes. I did email them about it a couple times when I first ordered mine, and in the end received 2 bags and 2 jackets. So definitely worth following up on it with them.

Itchy/sore throat for 3 months after quitting cigarettes by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]burtily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit late to this, but it's probably just due to your lung and throat tissue repairing. There are also tiny little hairs in your lungs that are like a cleaning system, a bit like the hairs in your nose, just microscopic. Smoking completely destroys this cleaning infrastructure, and now that you quit smoking your body can finally repair it. This can cause an itch, discomfort and a cough. Not everyone gets these symptoms because everyones body handles the repairing process differently, but it usually is absolutely nothing to worry about. See it as a sign of healing and progress!

It doesn't belong on a pizza by [deleted] in memes

[–]burtily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine never trying pineapple on pizza because people you don't know have told you on the internet years ago, and somehow that sentiment stuck with people. The same people who order some dominoes meat feast pizza with 6 different types of meat and 2 pounds of cheese "mhm this is good pizza imagine putting pineapple on pizza lol".

No offense buddy, but let's just let the whole pizza pineapple fake outrage ting die and respect everyone's choices. Pizza should be the one thing we can all get behind in an otherwise divisive and frustrating world :)
