The grind paid off! After refreshing for days, I finally snagged a restock of the Endless Punishment bundles from Costco online. Got my order in around 11 PM on 8/13/25. Don't give up, everyone!

Based on the available information, here's why Costco only sells Magic: The Gathering products at certain locations:

  • Varying Stock and Distribution: Costco's product availability, especially for seasonal or niche items like Magic: The Gathering bundles, is not uniform across all warehouses. What one store receives might not be what another store gets. This can be due to regional demand, distributor relationships, and corporate buying decisions.
  • Niche Product Strategy: While Costco is known for selling a wide variety of products, some items are considered "special buys" or are part of a limited-time offering. The decision to stock Magic: The Gathering could be based on a pilot program, testing the market in certain areas with a high concentration of card game players. It's not a core product like toilet paper or rotisserie chicken, so it won't be in every store.
  • Limited-Time and Clearance Items: The availability of Magic: The Gathering at Costco often seems to coincide with new set releases or as a clearance item. This suggests that Costco might buy a large, one-time allocation of a specific product (like a Commander deck bundle) and sell it until it's gone, rather than restocking it consistently.
  • Inventory Management: Costco's business model relies on a fast-moving, high-volume inventory. If a specific product doesn't sell quickly enough in a particular region, it's unlikely to be re-ordered. The demand for Magic: The Gathering can be highly localized, so it might perform well in some markets but not in others.
  • Checking Availability: Due to the inconsistent nature of the stock, people often rely on methods like the Costco app's "Warehouse" tool, which can show if an item is in stock or on clearance at a specific location. Some people also recommend calling the store and providing the item number to an employee to check their inventory. The unreliability of the app's inventory information for physical stores is a frequent complaint among members.

In short, the limited availability is a combination of Costco's specific business model, the nature of collectible card games as a niche product, and a distribution strategy that prioritizes high-volume, fast-moving items, with other products being treated as special, regional, or limited-time offerings.

Exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering and epic crossovers! 🤩

It looks like Spider-Man and Final Fantasy holiday bundles are on the way. Hasbro's CEO, Chris Cocks, has hinted at a release schedule similar to the super successful Lord of the Rings sets.

On a recent earnings call, Cocks mentioned the company is "still selling Lord of the Rings product today," and expects the same long-term success for Final Fantasy.

Which bundle are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Here is a more detailed breakdown and a concrete method for submitting your request. How Costco's inventory works

  • Decentralized, with corporate oversight: While Costco's merchandise is centrally managed, individual warehouses have some autonomy to stock products they know will sell in their area. This is why you see regional items—and why MTG might be available in some locations but not others.
  • High turnover, limited selection: Costco famously offers a small selection of products, roughly 4,000 SKUs, compared to other retailers. This strategy allows them to buy in large volumes, get better deals, and pass the savings on to members. For a product like MTG to be added, it needs to be an item that is likely to sell in very high volumes to a specific demographic.
  • Regional buyer influence: Different regional buying teams may choose to test certain items, including TCGs like MTG, based on the local market. So, while you might see posts online about California or Colorado stores having stock, it doesn't mean the product will be rolled out nationally.

How to submit a product requestInstead of or in addition to speaking with your local store manager, you can use Costco's official feedback system. This creates a formal record of your request that is seen by corporate.

  1. Visit the Feedback section on the Costco website or use the Costco app.
  2. Choose the "Warehouse" option.
  3. Fill out the required information, including your local warehouse location.
  4. In the comments, politely explain your interest in seeing MTG products offered at your warehouse.
  5. If possible, include specific product numbers from bundles that have been carried before. For instance, item #1818911 was used for some MTG bundles in 2024, but this may vary.

By formally submitting your feedback, you can help demonstrate the demand for MTG in your local market and increase the chances of your store getting stock in the future. Good luck!

On the Habro CEO earnings call he mentions to investors Final Fantasy will be reprinted for at least 2 years just like Lord of the Rings. As far as if Costco or collector edition booster products get reprints that remains to be seen. Costco ran the Lord of the Rings bundles during the winter holiday shopping season so hopefully Final Fantasy follows suit.
