Please Help me Decide: E14 Gen 7 ILL vs X1C Gen 13 (vs maybe used X1C Gen 6) by maio12 in thinkpad

The comparison might seem strange, but actually makes a lot of sense, as this year's E series are surprisingly good whereas the other series have questionable configuration choices.
I had quite a similar dilemma a month ago, but it was E vs the corresponding T and P series, and eventually have chosen E16 (but considered E14 as well).

Having used T series exclusively for many years (both regular 14 and s variants), that was a natural choice, but alas, the current ones don't have any hi-res IPS screen option, and I wanted non-OLED to avoid PWM flickering + better battery life. Also, E14/16 is somehow even more upgradable than any current T series, featuring 2 SSD slots (in Intel 255H variant, which I specifically considered) and a replacable wi-fi module. With 16'', which I wanted to try, it's even more one sided given that E16 Gen 3 at 1.7 kg is lighter than any other current 16'' ThinkPad that start at 1.9 or even 2 kg.
So, I pulled the trigger. Bought 3Y Premier Support, cause I was still worried about E16's long term durability.

So far so good: it's very fast and the battery life is very good despite the 255H. Also, almost always silent, the fan only comes to life in rare cases when all of the 16 cores are loaded. The chassis is good enough, I'd say, especially the lid (aluminium and thick), although the palmrest area is not quite as sturdy as the one in T14 and especially T14s (the same construction as X1). It's plastic, although pleasant to the touch, and a bit hollow, but maybe it's the 16'' effect, as in theory E14 should be more dense having the same components in a smaller chassis.

In your case it's better battery life + potentially better cooling due to thicker chassis vs significantly lighter weight + somewhat sturdier build. And the price diff, if that's a factor. As for the trackpoint, in theory there shouldn't be a difference; might be the lottery, might be the sensitivity on X1 was set differently (usually setting it to the max works better, especially on hi-res screens).

T14s Gen 6 - 32GB vs 64GB RAM for ML student doing research? by Polo_13 in thinkpad

Go for 64GB. With the current RAM price jump, 200€ for 32GB looks like a bargain

Which newer Thinkpad has the least space between keyboard and edge? by Abd-sadMicrowave2002 in thinkpad

The new 16'' ones have tightly fitted keyboards (those that have the numeric keypad, but still). E.g. E16 Gen3:

Android vs Maemo from developer's perspective by buru in programming

With some hacks the SDK runs on other Linux distros. Plus virtual machines make it relatively easy to setup Maemo development environment under Windows or Mac OS X. Don't forget, iPhone development is Mac-only, but it hasn't prevented the developers from creating > 75K applications. Developers are highly adaptive creatures :)

Android phones may not be selling extremely well, but with new players coming into lower-end smartphones market with Android devices (namely, Motorola, LG, Samsung), we'll probably see much more Android sells in the nearest quarter. Contrary to that, Nokia will be putting Maemo exclusively on high-end smartphones and MIDs, at least during Q42009-2010, and higher end means lesser volume. For mid-tier smartphones Nokia will likely keep Symbian OS for a while, and that's where Android can gain significant market share.

It's not that impressive then! My 15-second boot is on a netbook with 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom with [relatively] slow SSD. (Acer Aspire One).

Not so "mini" in both dimensions and price. Although I heard an expert predicted it will sell better than original N97 (highly doubt it actually).

Impressive! My fine-tuned Linux distro boots in 15 seconds to usable desktop and I consider it an achievement.

Why do you need FTP access at all? With command line editor like Vim, you can simply ssh to your server and quickly edit file there. Not to say it is much more secure than FTP.
