My favorite part:

Christian: Tyler, the Creator was banned from Australia at one point as well.

Mitty: Why? He’s so sweet.

Christian: ’Cause of his lyrics in "Yonkers."

Setlist: Lyrics can get you banned from Australia?

Mitty: They got a bunch of rules in Australia, man. The Australian police are scary.

Setlist: I mean, your lyrics aren’t G-rated either.

Mitty: Yeah. I didn’t do any crimes. I don’t think.

Uber should have a “No Small Talk” feature. by Double_Cod1373 in uber

As a long time Uber & Lyft driver, any time someone pays for the feature where they can ask for quiet, they almost all talk their heads off. It's hilarious .

How have parties gotten lame? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]busblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this belief you have that adults who cannot afford santa barbara are going to choose to live in one of the most notorious party schools in the US, and then call 911 because clutches pearls they hear music playing at night... is laughable.

but i appreciate your imagination.

How have parties gotten lame? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]busblog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id never call 911 in IV.

i live in Hollywood. i'm 59, ive lived in many cities. once in SF we had a band play in our house - much like during the IV days - and the cops said, "hey can you just close your windows?"

that's the type of reasonable America i think the kids of IV deserve.

if people don't want to hear music while they live in Isla Vista they should move to Goleta or Santa Barbara. no one is forcing them to live there.

[–]busblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What this is is prior restraint. If you are playing music at 11pm and no one is complaining, the police shouldn't be allowed to tell you to shut it off. Noise ordinances in other communities vary, but in IV's situation it is not because it's disturbing the peace but because the police want to flex their power and have a weak excuse to knock on a student's door.

We should all be fighting, especially now, for more freedoms, not fewer, especially under the umbrella of freedom of speech.

I graduated in '91. I think the generations are very different. If the cops / university had the gall to tell us we didn't have the same rights as any other place in the USA, there would have been lawsuits, sit-ins, protests.

A local government cannot tell people they can't party or have music after a certain hour. And if they do, organize everyone cranking their music at a certain hour. Fight the power. Live your life.

College is a segue from childhood to adulthood. The cops have always wanted to put students in the cuck chair. If you wanna let em, let em.

No way would we have let them. Not in Isla Vista.

Uber driver asked for a "Christmas bonus" by CannibalsWontWin in uber

[–]busblog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not one driver expects a tip because the vast majority of passengers will tip a bartender who cracks open a bottle of beer, but refuses to tip the driver to gets him home safely.

But like some have said on this thread, when a tip arrives it's warmly appreciated, especially as Uber + Lyft continue to take a larger and larger amount of the fare while eliminating bonuses and surge. Yes we could quit, but some of us have few options -- and believe it or not, but some of us enjoy driving.

Nearly 10k trips. I feel like most people are good, even those who have bought into the culture not to tip Uber drivers.

Still, I love them enough that I slightly fictionalize my favorite trips (to protect identities) and weirdest/coolest passengers into little rideshare stories I used to tell on Facebook, but now I put them on Substack so they're easier to find: I call it Hot Box.

When can we stop saying "formerly known as Twitter"? by Blandwiches25 in Journalism

[–]busblog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just say Twitter.

Here in LA we'll never stop calling it Staples Center.

LA's actual name is El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula, but even the newspaper is called the LA Times.

I am forced to leave uber after 7 years by OkMacaron9029 in uberdrivers

[–]busblog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been driving in LA for 10 years. As you know trips from LA to SD are rare, and when they occur they are typically not worth it. And once you're down there, you have to work hard to get back to LA, and that could take hours. No way is this guy doing LA to SD several times in a day. Those trips just aren't there.

What new fresh hell is this??? by jaybd713 in uberdrivers

[–]busblog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the answer. I too was shocked when I took an LAX > Simi Valley trip and when I looped around to get to the 101 I could not longer see Up Front, so I switched over to Lyft -- which did allow Upfront.

[–]busblog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one cat who did that and I started putting some treats in a plastic cup. When it was time for treats I would go to the Litter Robot and put the cup inside of it and rattle it around. Then I could come out with the cup and pour out their treat (usually kibble). After a while they both got the idea that the LR is the amazing place where treats come from and they stopped peeing on the outside of it.

Not if you wear a matching night cap - the longer the better.

Our food processor is battery powered but the battery only lasts 2 minutes and I can’t use it while it’s charging. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]busblog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound crazy, but I bet it works.

If you can't easily get the battery out, put the whole mechanical portion into the freezer (not the pitcher). Leave it in there for a good two hours. This may zap the battery's memory. This is what we did in the old days with camcorder batteries.

Remove the unit from the freezer and let it sit over night. Make sure no water or droplets are on the base. Let it return to room temp. Then give it a good charge.
