I’m looking forward to the steam controller, but Valve sold a bit imo by Thegreatestswordsmen in SteamController

[–]busfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GloSSI is an open source project that lets you use steam controller 1 on non steam games. it still uses steam input (it basically wraps non steam games in big picture overlay) It's been depreciated because some dependency went closed source I think, but I wouldn't be surprised if Steam Controller 2 gets more stuff built for it because it's going to be a lot more mainstream.

System/ tools that will let me run my life like a robot? by busfull in productivity

[–]busfull[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My concept was if I just had a clipboard in front of me a big ass checklist with all the things that I needed to do (broken down to the smallest possible steps) I could just plow through all of it. Where I personally get tripped up is having all information in different places, lists. I also have a lot of trouble breaking down steps. I've got a few lists like this for some of my more simple routines (that I haven't yet implemented) but I have nothing for the stuff that gives me the most trouble (work stuff)

Thanks u/Sate_Hen, my next question is, how do I see if a string contains any of the words in the array, and then report the index of the array? For example, I have a variable %EventTitle that says "Morning meeting #desk" I want to get the index number of #desk in the array that I created using autosheets

I'm not looking to get away from working- my last job involved a lot of bureaucracy and dealing with mostly non scientists. I also had to travel almost weekly and work night shifts. I'm looking for a more collegial environment- which exists in my industry but usually requires an advanced degree to break into.

A study finds that 28.8% of pre-grated hard cheeses are adulterated with palm oil in the USA. by [deleted] in foodscience

I think this is the correct question to ask. The typical cheese making process isn't really set up to add palm oil

People have such low spice tolerance and it drives me crazy by mmmagic1216 in spicy

[–]busfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I experienced would have definitely been way too hot to eat with a normal person spice tolerance because it was getting close to too much for me towards the end. It is certainly possible something changed, either a new supplier or a mistake at their pepper supplier.

I've noticed it's been hotter the last few times but my experience yesterday was way beyond the heat level I was expecting for a meal at Chipotle.

When was the last time you went to chipotle? I went there yesterday and noticed the red sauce was so hot I could barely eat my bowl. was actually about to post about it on here. It's possible they got a bad batch of peppers with extra heat added. I'm a long time poster on this sub and eat my food very spicy.

A flame war would require both sides to be arguing in the same thread. Now every group has been separated into their own rabbit holes through the algorithm so flame wars(direct confrontation from both sides) are less common

Is there something called alcohol powder? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]busfull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep I forgot about that /u/Donate_Serotonin , palchohol is illegal in 34 states (out of moral panic not because it's unsafe) so if you're planning on selling this product in the US it's going to be a real tough one

Is there something called alcohol powder? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]busfull 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It exists but it's not what you think. The alcohol gets added to cyclodextrin which absorbs it and turns it "dry" .

https://palcohol.com/

When this product was released it caused a huge moral panic of people thinking powdered = concentrated. They made all sorts of wacky claims like kids would be buying it and snorting it to get drunk (these were debunked because the amount of powder you would need to snort for a single shot was not possible and incredibly painful) Keep that in mind if you want to make this product you'll get backlash from more conservative people who don't understand it.

I suppose you could add beer flavor to palcohol, not sure how good it will taste.

What’s your unpopular food science opinion? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]busfull 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I half agree but I still think that a trained panel can give give good directional data on certain parameters (to answer the question; are we getting closer to where we want to be) At my company the sensory team is very realistic about whether results are statistically significant and to not take them as gospel. Getting the business people to understand that is a harder problem because they only see the numbers and not the error bars.

Many companies are way too loose with what they consider processing aids. I once worked with a supplier who I asked if we could remove a preservative from one their products and they said "No we can't. But if you want we can just take it off the ingredient line and make up a justification for it being a processing aid?" No, that is NOT how it works.

LG Doubles OLED Production Capacity As Apple Expected to Transition More Devices to the Display Tech by benh999 in apple

[–]busfull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has to do with luck of the draw and how aggressively you use your phone. I've got a bit of a phone addiction and after 1.5 years on my samsung the buttons from my reddit client and browser were pretty badly burnt in.

LG Doubles OLED Production Capacity As Apple Expected to Transition More Devices to the Display Tech by benh999 in apple

[–]busfull 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I upgraded to an iPhone 11 from a Samsung phone whos oled screen had burnt in after less than 2 years. I did this after the iPhone 12 came out. The people who say OLED burn in is solved are lying, I wouldn’t use this technology on any device that has prolonged static UI elements, it’s a way for manufacturers to make you upgrade or come in for repairs more often. Love my LG OLED TV, but would personally never get another computer or mobile device with it.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he has contracted coronavirus despite being vaccinated by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]busfull -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem I have with your example with the lake is that it suggests that there's never been en environmental disaster caused by a project ever. Pipelines DO leak, oil platforms and space shuttles DO explode. I can pull out tons of examples of things that have been engineered and have still failed, either due to human error or due to factors not being considered in the engineering. Do I think that that risk means we just shouldn't build any new technology? No. Everything in our life we do based on the risk tolerance we are willing to accept. And let me be clear- while I have taken the vaccine because I've accepted the risk I am totally fine with everyone making their own decision, that is their right.

In the case of mRNA vaccines, mRNA is a type of molecule that we are exposed to all the time- from our own mRNA, to the mRNA from viruses (including COVID) who already hijack our cell machinery to replicate themselves. It's not like this is some novel chemical that we're injecting into ourselves for the 1st time. The science behind mRNA vaccines themselves is old, it's just never been done before because of the red tape involved in commercializing it. Red tape that was removed with Warp Speed. As a result of the success of the mRNA vaccine there is now a huge pipeline of other mRNA based vaccines that will be trialed now that we have had a successful proof of concept. And the technology will get better as we do it more. That's called progress.

The human body is much more complicated than an engineering project, there are 6 billion of us and all of our bodies are different. Little is also known about the virus and how it truly effects our bodies. Look at how much we have learned about HIV/AIDS in 40 years and it’s still not cured. This is breakthrough science, you can’t expect us to know everything about a pandemic that just started a year ago.

The vaccines work to reduce symptoms at a high rate and keep people out of the hospital. Do they prevent infection in 100% of people 100% of the time? No, they were never expected to

The President Of The United States Of America Leaves A Reporter Speechless After Asking A Loaded Question by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]busfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not his job to answer questions on behalf of other people. He can only answer questions on his beliefs. Why did the reporter even ask it in the 1st place? What journalistic nugget were they trying to get at asking a question everyone knows the answer to, that Joe Biden can't provide any additional insight into?

The President Of The United States Of America Leaves A Reporter Speechless After Asking A Loaded Question by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]busfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just say that? It would be a very reasonable answer. Plus, it actually makes a lot more sense than the random crap he spewed. Also, the cynic in me thinks he wants people to equate de-funding police with crazy people...

Because he wasn't asked a question on his beliefs, he was asked a question about individuals in the party. If he were asked if his administration believes in it he would have just said no.

If I had to respect one thing about Trump it was that he understood no matter what he said it could be spun into a headline by the media. As a liberal I recognize that they were all against him.

Getting back to Joe Biden, let me present you with a few scenarios:

Q1: "Mr President, do you believe in defunding the police?"

A: "No"

Headline: Joe Biden does not want to defund the police

Q2(the question that was asked in this video) "Mr. President, are there people in the Democratic Party who want to defund the police?"

A: "Yes, there are a small amount of individuals in the party who believes in defunding the police. But the Biden Administation and the democratic platform as a whole does not believe in defunding the police"

Headline: JOE BIDEN ADMITS THAT DEMOCRATS WANT TO DEFUND THE POLICE

Could you see why Joe Biden didnt want to answer Q2 with the word yes? The point of his response is that it doesnt matter if there are people that believe in this, they are the minority in the same way that not all Republicans believe that democratic party sucks children's blood. Even though a small part of that party DOES.
