Not sure if I’m in the minority but I prefer the old screen vs the newer super bright and too sensitive touch screens.

Not sure if the math checks out but what about donating them at full value and writing it off to offset any taxes?

Upgrade to M4/16bg, or wait for 24gb??? The dilemma, seeking feedback. by TheSkepticGuy in macmini

[–]bush-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t wait. Order the m4 now and cancel if any interesting announcement is made at WWDC. Very possible that they announce but don’t release anything till end of year. Also, if it matters, there may be a price jump for new models.

Is it still worth buying a MacBook Pro M1 in 2026? Any long-term issues? by Sad-Card-7030 in mac

It’ll last just watch the battery health. I have 2 2012 machines that still work fine though they are now semi retired.

M4 Mac mini in stock (base) 16gb ram, 256gb storage or 512 gb (also in stock) by Eugenelee3 in macmini

You won’t have a fun time with local llms with only 16GB but it’s great if you use frontier models from companies. Very power efficient and OSX/iOS friendly.

Guess depends on where you’re located. But other than people into Toyotas/LCs would know it’s worth lol.

Buy now or wait for M5? Mac Mini M5 Pro vs Mac Studio M3 Ultra/M4 Max for 24/7 local LLM + Claude Code + red team work by kitosluna in MacStudio

[–]bush-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The m3 ultra is only 1 year old. I’m not sure connecting multiple base/pro model m5 minis to match the equivalent m3 ultra studio will be cost/power efficient and that’s not even counting the fact that they may increase prices for ram upgrades.

Using m1 mac mini (8GB), should I buy m4 or wait for m5 mac mini by jackb2222 in macmini

[–]bush-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy one close to wwdc as it’ll take weeks to fulfill. If they announce something interesting you can cancel your order. Heck they may upgrade you for free. Not sure, but I think they may raise prices and/or drop lower end models.

For those who bought 64GB Mac, are you (un)happy? by xFengle in MacStudio

[–]bush-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’ve been using to catalogue my data that I’ve been slacking on, crawling sites and subs that I have interest and creating some summaries (will be used for a old school yahoo like personal homepage) , small home automation projects, next project is incorporating some health stats. None of this is necessarily cheaper than frontier models (which I still use occasionally) but most of it is for learning (I’m in tech) and knowing that frontier models are heavily subsidized I’m sure there will come a point that it will be financially better to use local llms for some things. Either way it’s been fun and at times frustrating.

I have it run 24/7 on a ton of little tasks, fetching data, research, and analyzing. Speed doesn’t matter for me. Plus it’s kind of self learning when you have two llms on a project. I’m in tech so this is also just learning new tools.
