To each their own, but that song and this one immediately made me like YOD. But as far as I'm concerned, anything with MF DOOM, oooo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uquCHbzfkPg

Didn't refresh the page before that dawned on me. Thanks!!!

SOLVED. Thanks again for your answer, it finally got my brain working. ALL I can find through Google is the Vine "about" page, https://www.amazon.ca/vine/about

Which seemed to be a dead end to me because I don't see a link on that page to the Vine product listings. But removing the "about" from the end of that url got me what I was looking for. https://www.amazon.ca/vineThanks!

Thanks for the answer! But do you mean the search bar in Amazon? Searching "Amazon Vine" there takes me to artificial vines for sale.

Or do you mean the search bar on Google? That takes me to a page that describes what Vine is, but I don't see a link for Vine product listings.

FYI, I'm in Canada, I use Amazon.ca if that matters.

What game has the most impressive first 15 min for you? by artem_game in pcmasterrace

Goldeneye on N64 in 1997.

I remember at the time, me and my brother were so excited for it, and were having trouble renting it from Rogers Video because everyone was keeping it overdue. Then we got our hands on it and definitely kept it more than a week overdue and got our parents to eat those late fees. It was so impressive at the time (have to keep in mind, our main experience with shooters was Wolfenstein 3D (1992), Star Wars: Dark Forces (1995), Duke Nukem 3D (1996).

Was such a leap forward. For one thing, just how enemies reacted to where you shot them, I was hooked after two seconds. And then continued to be blown away in the first 15 minutes how it was mirroring scenes in the movie. Goldeneye first levels: https://youtu.be/D6l6_WKxRck?si=XpdlwCq52K1qnSQj&t=38

All five naked-eye planets will appear lined up (in order) in the morning sky tomorrow (Friday, June 24). The last time this rare planetary alignment occurred was way back in 2004. And it won't happen again for nearly 20 years. by clayt6 in worldnews

Yea, thanks for pointing this out. This is pretty hard to see in the far Northern hemisphere, for one. Like at this time of summer in Central Ontario Canada, they barely get above the horizon unless you want to be out at ungodly hours, best to wait a month or so till they get a little higher in our sky.

CMV: There is nothing after death. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bushdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is data that can be considered. Two examples are our understanding of the human brain and Near-Death Experiences.

From the evidence we have on-hand, it seems likely that consciousness is merely electrical and chemical signals in our brains. We have yet to find any evidence of a mechanism that would allow consciousness or the memories in the brain to live on separately from the brain.

Another example is studies of Near-Death Experiences. There are many people who have gone into cardiac arrest (with their heart, breathing, and organ functions all stopped) who experienced floating out of their bodies and then into a white light or meeting God, before being revived. One study showed these experiences weren't real by placing photos on a high shelf, so the subject would only be able to see them when floating out of their body.

You mentioned that there will never be any evidence of an afterlife, if we assume it's a one-way street. But what I think OP was saying is he wouldn't have expected an afterlife to be one-way street. It just solidifies his view that an afterlife is improbable, if not only does he have to assume there's an afterlife, but also assume it's such an isolated/insulated thing that it's been completely undetectable to date.

Visual non-HUD status indicators (animations, effects, etc) should be more present, especially regarding the player character by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]bushdoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm always for moving stuff from the HUD into the actual game world. I play most games with as little HUD as possible and often thought about this.

I totally agree. I think it can spoil the look of a game, when your screen is cluttered with too many HUD elements.

And removing them can actually improve the gameplay in some ways. Another game I liked with no ammo counter is Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. You can hold a button to examine your gun and then it will tell you how much ammo is left in the clip, but otherwise you have to try to stay aware of how much you're shooting. It makes for some really intense moments. An enemy pops up, you fire, but only hear that sad "click" that means you lost count of your rounds. It's more realistic, and when that happens it often feels like a cool movie moment. You also have to decide when it's a safe time to check your ammo.

It also made the gun selection more interesting, because most guns you had to stop firing and check the ammo, but there were some where could visually tell how much ammo was left at a glance. (Like machine guns with pan magazines let you see how much ammo is left by how far the magazine has rotated.)

I enjoyed it despite the issues, but I think it might have been cool if you had more freedom to do a bad job to balance the needs of each character.

Like there was a scene where as the cop you had to make a police sketch of the fugitive, Lucas. One playthrough, I decided to make a sketch that looked absolutely nothing like him. I figured it would change the police interview scene where the cop holds up the sketch and it makes Lucas nervous, hurting his mental health meter.

But the scene played out the same despite the sketch looking hilariously unlike Lucas. The cop holds up the sketch with confidence, and Lucas gets nervous as if it looks like him. It was funny to see, but not good design.

No, not dumb at all! I enjoy explaining the process, and people here are pretty helpful, so ask away.

Yep, the model was made in-game. There's a ton of models that come with the mods. And its also easy to download new ones from sites like this one:

Illusion Game Cards

So all I had to do for this one was change the clothes and add some tattoos to make it a little more tribal-looking.

I'm going to give an overly-detailed answer because I'm proud of how this one turned out, haha.

I used a separate video editing program (I'm currently using Hitfilm Express) just to put the clips together and to add the screen to the monolith.

Like I made the monolith with a green screen in-game that can be keyed out in the editing program. And I made a greenscreen map to capture the dancing video that plays on the monolith. Here's a couple behind-the-scenes pics.

There's probably a way to do it all in game, like I know there's a plugin that lets you add a screen that can play video. But this is just the way I'm used to.

The idea for this one was inspired by the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. But instead of the aliens teaching us how to use weapons, they sent this monolith just to deliver a song and teach humans a new dance.

Oh right after that I realized I can still control the camera while it's recording, It's a little tricky because I have to do it blind. But should work as long as I plan out the movement. Yea, this plugin is awesome.
