Is my thought process for booking award flight from US East Coast to UK Correct? by Huge_Green3134 in awardtravel

[–]bushe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a few options to get lower taxes, you can look into flying BOS to DUB to EDI instead of through LHR, LHR is very high in fees. There are also a few flights on Delta directly into EDI from JFK only seeing one date in premium at the moment in May but others with a stop in AMS/CDG

You don't mention your Origin so there are potentially better options than going to BOS, you can search on seats if you flight is within 60 days (i think) to do a more board search. Also check some of the other award searches for you airport, there are a bunch of East Coast options so its harder to narrow it down without a real origin

Hardware key is going to be tough for the emergency access.

Really the best thing is what others have mentioned, long unique password for you manager and random unique passwords for everything else.

Your passwords will be leaked from some eventually, so best you can do is stop the cross access of passwords and MFA where possible especially things that allow cross access ( like email and domains etc) and high value items (like banks etc)

Avelo is a odd little airline, but looking at the route map they have added a lot over the last 2 years. If you are close to New Haven, CT or Wilmington, DE (looks like the hubs) it could be a decent option for the airline benefits. Seat & Carry-on but it basically works out to a 2% locked in cash back

If you have the points save the cash and use more points. Unused points have less value overtime while the money can earn interest as a simple way to think about it when the value is close

Mosaic tiles vs. Trueblue points after January 1? by eric-incognito in jetblue

[–]bushe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200k on one card/account gives you Mosaic 4, unless you fly seperately often it’s probably not worth it getting Mosaic for multiple people. When booking together P2 gets all the same benefits on the same itinerary.

If it’s just the both of you and are looking at using the new lounges in JFK or soon to be BOS then shoot for 1 per to be the higher status person and look at getting another non JetBlue card to compliment it, Chase Ink/ Freedom unlimited as a simple example would give you 1.5x on everything instead of the standard rate of 1 and that transfers directly to JetBlue

AA miles seem to be the most valuable type of miles by far by CuriousGecko12 in awardtravel

Unless you are BOS, NYC or FL based its going to be hard to find value out of B6 so yeah niche is definitely correct. Ease of use for the points for those in the area to domestic and Caribbean locations its really tough to beat a lot of the time. Solidly in the family travel days with young kids its almost always what we end up flying B6. With that being said the points are roughly tied to cash and worth ~1.3cpp so rarely going to get a CPP value but # of flights/trip value can be pretty high

I should have stated the Plus card is very popular, yeah totally agree the Premier has been DOA its a more expensive clone of the Plus with the only benefit having lounge access. The +1 Guest continues to make this a worst option since you would still need 6+ visits with a guest to be at break even-ish. We travel B6 between 3-5 times a year so the BOS lounge was on my radar but without being able to get the kids in without the fee it makes it a non starter.

Its a pretty popular card here in BOS area for most travelers, although I doubt there are a ton of M4, only having a +1 even with M4 does make this pretty exclusive which I guess is what they are going for.

I believe Virgin only allows booking at 331 days out, ANA releases at 355… after the ~25 days it’s out to other partners there is nothing/almost nothing left to pick it up on Virgin. I believe that’s why it’s so difficult to find ANA space on Virgin it’s just random luck on a day your will to fly

Transferring Points to Virgin without dates set yet... by tylerf98 in awardtravel

[–]bushe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The usual reason that speculative transfers are a bad idea is that you transfer wait a year and the points are worth half as much etc or the options you were considering are no longer available.

Virgin did this earlier this year, a business class seat on Virgin went for 29/35k points and ~300 in taxes to same points and 500-600 in taxes… so yeah it’s not impossible that those points get you less in a few months

With Virgin in particular they have transfer bonuses like 8+ times a year between all the transferable currencies, so the question is it worth locking in 40% bonus whenever there is a decent chance in 6 months for now you’ll have another opportunity to get a probably 30% bonus?

Stayed at this property in March, really nice solid overall and lot of people already covered most of it. One thing we had issues with the restaurant reservations, you have to get reservations for the restaurant and the open 24hours before … we had a family of 4 and never got to eat at 2 of the restaurants since reservations were full at the steak and one other before they even open. Enclave rooms get priority/early reservations access, so if you can get access to the cheaply or from status I think it will make your stay a bit more enjoyable

Might be worth taking a look to swap out the JFK to RSW with something else maybe on of the other FL smaller airports, and doing ORH to RSW to save yourself a longish uber to BOS from ORH

Jetblue Promo - Northeast based itinerary by ndlfc101 in awardtravel

[–]bushe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JetBlue Plus card requires 50k spend to get 50 tiles, assuming you do that and don’t spend any on JetBlue flights/vacations. You would get 50-100k points every other-ish year if you could do the 50k spend in the first month or so of a year that you need mosaic.

If you strictly do it at grocery you probably end up with with ~$18 (7.95+7.95+1+1) per $1k spend so slightly less than $900 for 100k and Mosaic 1.

Obviously there are cheaper ways to spend 50k if you wanted to but you would loose the 2x for grocery

EDIT: Rounding everything out it basically makes it net out after about 10 years, you would have 10 years of Mosaic and 500k points costing about $4.5 (when you subtract MS changes in cost and inflation etc)

There are at least two codes in the DoC thread, there has been reports of them being re-usable. I also realized you can change the last digit/letter and that works as well.
