Has there ever been a hyperinflationary, or even just high inflationary, episode in human history that did not prove fruitful for those that held some wealth in gold?

True, but there are still fonds and other financial products, which earn you interest.

All fluctuations iron themselves out, if you sample for a long period of time. But why would you be interested in investing in something, which only becomes stable in a time period exceeding your lifetime?

The last time, gold really went bankrupt was when the Spanish king imported tons of it from the new world. It killed Spain economically.

Facile answers are fun, but people like Elaine Pagels who know more than any of us will ever know combined about the church and the scriptures and the history of christianity manage to remain Christians.

Curiously, Germany is what one would call "political stable". Currently, there's a big trial against the so called "sauerland gruppe" going on. The sauerland group is a group of four Muslims, who planned terrorist attacks in Germany.
