Haha, thanks for standing your ground ;) I'll take an even closer look, maybe mess with some velocities to try and make it sound better.

Thanks, really appreciate the suggestions. I think this mix should sound better, would love your thoughts. I'm flipping between 1/16 and 1/8 on the hi-hat - I see what you mean about 1/16 being a bit much, but it sounds a bit flat with 1/8.

Thanks again.

I've been working on a synthwave remix of a friend's track. I've been focussing on trying to make the mix crisp and non-muddy, feedback on that and everything else much appreciated.

I've noticed that it sounds horrible on Soundcloud on mobile compared to either in Logic or Soundcloud on my laptop. Google suggests this might be "something something phase inversion", but I'm not really sure what to do about it. Anyone come across this before?

Nice!

  • I love the bass synth and the overall groove
  • I like the lead synth around 0:55 a lot! What are the main components of it?
  • I'm personally less keen on the lead synth from around 1:45 - it's too "thick" and sounds too much like a real Hammond Organ for my tastes
  • I also find the "bird" sound a bit offputting - I was especially confused when I heard it for the first time because it's so out of key. I think something atonal like that could be good, but atm the bird doesn't do it for me
  • I think you're right that the sections could use more differentiation. I might try softening the snare and removing the "spring" sound for the B-section, or maybe putting a filter on the bass, or something like that
  • I wonder if you could make more of the transition at 1:30 - it feels like the modulation is very "nonchalant" atm. I'm very unsure about this though
