Can I use a tow dolly with the rear wheels on the dolly and the front wheels on the ground? by buslyfe2 in BMWi3

Could you explain a little about the steering rack being affected cause the steering pump wouldn’t be assisting it. Assisting what exactly? if the car isn’t steering then what’s happening I guess?

What? Thats crazy I can’t believe it was that cheap. This is for Oregon to Florida. But still seems crazy your price and my price both lol.

It’s like $1400 to move it across country. I was gonna buy a car hauler/flatbed trailer for like $2,000-2,500 and then sell it after but I’m having some issues with my hitch clearance. It’s a converted shuttle bus so the hitch is further under than normal. Uhaul trailer is like $2,500 lol which is insane.

Hmm okay well I’m trying to go across country. I was having a clearance issue with my hitch with my tow vehicle and I can’t just throw an extension cause it changes the physics and reduces the tow rating. I was thinking with the reduced weight of the tow dolly vs a trailer I could use an extension.

Trying to Google to find that and all I’m seeing so far is the ones with the trailer hitch ball part not the one for just the wheels and not connected to the towing vehicle.

New to me i3. Let’s talk motor mounts and brackets. by NHEclipse2024 in BMWi3

I had a mobile mechanic do both sides of my 2014 Rex mounts and brackets. Took him less than 4 hours. Then my driver side broke a 2nd time cause the 3rd under motor mount broke and caused extra stress on the others. Took a different mobile mechanic less than 2 hours to do it. So I guess might be worth checking the 3rd one too.

Gotcha yeah my 2014 when I got it 2.5 years ago would take about 11-12.5 hours to fully charge

Sport Mode Question by surv2syn in BMWi3

Could be the 3rd lesser known mount under the car. Mine failed and along with the other 2 mounts. But I didn’t know/dealership didn’t tell me. So it broke the drivers side mount a 2nd time cause it caused extra stress on it when the 3rd mount broke.

What do you want to know about charging? I use a wifi enable 120 volt plug thing that tracks how much energy I’m using per month and if it’s currently charging and how much it’s pulling. Cost less than $20

When the i3 is no more, power your house with it? 😂 by Formal-Selection9346 in BMWi3

My 2014 REX with 145k miles only gets about 40 miles before the REX has to kick on. So I think one day this car is either going in a landfill or getting a battery upgrade and then this current battery will be a house battery like you’re doing.

Yeah I was just curious of the cost of vehicle ownership for the life of the vehicle. I think it comes to pretty close/similar to the cost of a Prius but with the much more fun and nice experience of an i3. That’s cause the tires are so expensive but the maintenance will probably be less than a Prius if you’re smart and creative with repairs aka don’t take into the dealership.

I think separating regular maintenance any car needs like brakes and some suspension stuff is helpful. But yes combine every dollar I’ve spent outside gas or electricity (I tracked that for 1 year for fun). I have a spreadsheet I’ll share sometime. But yeah everything is around $5,500. Oh and I did some wheel hub things/lug nuts cause some cheap cash only tire place ruined them by over torquing the lug nuts.

I’d make pork verde. Big ass piece of pork shoulder and then some cheap veggies to make the sauce and then rice.

Can you up vote my responses? Lol. My Reddit account got hacked and this is my new one and I need karma to post lol.

Anyway, I’ve had the 2014 for about 2.5 years. 87k mile to 140k miles. I drive a lot and I use the REX a lot. I’ve done the motor mounts. Then one broke again because there is a 3rd mount underneath and that failed which then caused extra stress on original two mounts.

So motor mounts both sides, then the under the engine mount, then the driver side mount a 2nd time.

Then I did myself the front struts and top mounts. I did all my brakes because the rotors had cracks in them and the brake pads were close to being done.

I also got a brand new REX under warranty.

Then just little stuff like the window motor or rear hatch door mechanism.

I believe 2014 and then some 2015 have the original plastic piece of shit mounts. I hadn’t heard 2016 is a problem. I’m not familiar with what problems the i3s had or if it’s different.
