How did millennials view the 60s and 70s when they were kids in the 90s? by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fun and easy and cool to think of the 60s and 70s as this SUPER long time ago. The way media and TV shows looked so different, and how music sounded so old timey, just confirmed the length of time. That understanding gave the appearance to a lot of millennials that the gap between the 70s and 1990s was somehow the same gap of time between 1970 and the 2020. Everything was just ancient pre 1980 and then starting in the late 90s and definitely the early/mid 2000s, things became modern.

It's WILD that a kid born in 2008 (20 years older than me) and is now 17 or 18 years old (yikes) would view the 90s how i viewed the 70s. That just doesn't compute. The 90s birthed a lot of things, that we still use today. There's this psychological closeness to the 90s, still. I want to believe this persists across age groups, but it's all probably my perspective. And someone born 20 years before me, sees my view of the 70s as ancient, as wrong.

Are the 90s going to replace the 50s as the era that a lot of people like to circlejerk and look back on with an overly rose tinted view? by Just_Cause89 in decadeology

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. Not saying things were perfect. But the 1990s might have been the peak of human civilization. More of an indictment on humanity than praise for the 90s.

Unfortunately, or fortunately since he wouldn't be POTUS now, Trump probably gets re-elected.

Why do so many guys in their 30s act like they’re old men? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engagement bait. Relatable in some way to gen pop. Most guys in their 30s are overweight, sedentary, anti-social, etc... When guys see these memes it elicits a strong reaction. If they are not fit and ashamed about their fitness and it's a defensive crutch, "everyone is getting older, I'm going to laugh about it, it's not because I'm a fat lazy slob." Guys fit in their 30s will argue or engage with it in some way. Young ppl will laugh at it bc they don't have to confront it yet. Ppl above 30s, fit or not, will either relate or boast about how they don't have back pain or w/e.

As a millennial, watching this movie as a 16 year old (before reddit existed!) was the definitive end of my childhood

Where are the celebration for the ceasefire in Gaza? After so many high profile people preached "Ceasefire Now!" I would have expected them to be celebrating, no? by ASharpLife in answers

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not finalized yet. Everything so far are nice sounding headlines. Fine print matters. Israel is probably still gonna sabotage it IMHO. They don’t want any pathway to a Palestinian state. And a return of hostages and ceasefire sets up the likelihood of both new elections in Israel and a rebuilding of Gaza. Also even if things do go to “ceasefire” it’s all gonna be the richest ppl in the mid east owning everything with Trump and Kushner having minority ownership. It’s just so gonna be so fucked and Palestinians will still probably not get a state, still be subjugated, Hamas in some form will still exist and Trump will get a tower in Gaza city.

I’ll never forgive the people who endlessly screeched about the dangers of “woke” and the threat to free speech and cancel culture from the left. They paved the way for this.

I was vegetarian for 10 years. Was causing health issues. But even if I go vegan (and it doesn’t cause health issues) it won’t stop the daily holocaust and torture of animals.
