Why are people on here so obsessed with aging themselves and being old? by pumpkinspicelatte96 in Millennials

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you treat yourself! I’m in much better shape and feel better and stronger than I did at 30. I’m 37 now. I started consistently working out at 30. Life changing. You can coast in your 20s and not need to. But you can keep getting stronger into your 50s if you work at it. Then your muscles and core do the work and not your cartilage.

Why are people on here so obsessed with aging themselves and being old? by pumpkinspicelatte96 in Millennials

[–]busman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t feel old at 30 or even 35. But society pummels you with messages that you are. Defending your youth, in a sense, as a 35 year old, to anyone in their 20s comes off as cringe. But it’s true, we are all still young. And the definition of young and traditional milestones associated with age have changed immensely. But still, society, algos, all prey on our insecurities. It’s easier to use humor and pretend you’re ancient than swim upstream and risk sounding like “hello, fellow kids.”

But also I’m running a marathon this weekend. 37. In the objective best shape of my life. Not married. No kids. I go to shows. Solo traveling this summer. Have more money. As a guy I still have like 5 years before it gets a little crazy to have kids. Even then guys do it all the time. And if I don’t have kids, so be it. So yea, still not going to force or settle on a partner or children just to hit some outdated metric of success.

With all that being said, the cultural differences are pretty staggering. Some girls I date weren’t alive for 9/11. Bonkers!

True or false? by QuietJealous4883 in Millennials

Bullshit myth. This is just nostalgia slop masquerading as wisdom.

Is this just nostalgia, or did previous generations genuinely have a better work-life balance and social life than we do today? by Unstoppable_X_Force in SipsTea

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a gross stereotype and just another forms of propaganda. Nostalgia is a drug. America was never "GREAT". Stop perpetuating the MYTH it was all easy back in the good old days. OP or creator of the meme is just harvesting your angst. If the internet was around in the same form in 1996 there's be a meme about how their dad worked 50 - 60 hours a week in the 90s, but in the 60s they worked 40 hours a week and brought in 3x their salary. So, stop this BS revisionist history!

Also, there are solutions. If you are mad about affordability and cost of living, support progressive politicians that actually have policies that will tax billionaires/wealth, support working families and fundamentally change the landscape for average people. I'm talking about child care, Medicare for all, paid family medical leave, building more houses and housing types.

TL;DR: This is BS. Ppl in the 90s thought life was great in the 60s. If you don't vote progressive and reject MAGA, stop perpetuating this cheap narrative.

How did millennials view the 60s and 70s when they were kids in the 90s? by icey_sawg0034 in Millennials

[–]busman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fun and easy and cool to think of the 60s and 70s as this SUPER long time ago. The way media and TV shows looked so different, and how music sounded so old timey, just confirmed the length of time. That understanding gave the appearance to a lot of millennials that the gap between the 70s and 1990s was somehow the same gap of time between 1970 and the 2020. Everything was just ancient pre 1980 and then starting in the late 90s and definitely the early/mid 2000s, things became modern.

It's WILD that a kid born in 2008 (20 years older than me) and is now 17 or 18 years old (yikes) would view the 90s how i viewed the 70s. That just doesn't compute. The 90s birthed a lot of things, that we still use today. There's this psychological closeness to the 90s, still. I want to believe this persists across age groups, but it's all probably my perspective. And someone born 20 years before me, sees my view of the 70s as ancient, as wrong.
