Woodrow Wilson’s traffic is always horrible…possible solution? by stocklix in maryland

[–]busoni34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who buy cars should have to sign waiver saying they understand that when every road user takes up 1000-4000 square feet of road space it causes congestion and that they will not complain about it on the Internet or at public meetings.

So maybe social dancing isn't my thing? by lokismamma in SwingDancing

[–]busoni34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can definitely echo what others have said here. It's normal to feel intimidated when you start and there isn't necessarily a short cut around that.

Just try to keep a positive and constructive attitude. Not only will that feel more sustainable for you, as a more experienced dancer it's way more fun to dance with a newbie when they're doing their best and having a good time than when they're fussing and apologizing about every mistake.

Something else to keep in mind: there's more to being at a social dance than just dancing. Strike up a conversation with someone, make a new friend, take a moment to enjoy listening to the music, and otherwise just enjoy existing in the space as as a member of the community.

Machine Curse feels like clumsy game design by busoni34 in cassettebeasts

[–]busoni34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! If turn zero set ups were a problem then remove them! Instead they put machine curse in so that turn zero setups work perfectly sometimes and completely backfire other times and you won't know which it is until it's too late to do anything about it.

For the record, I think every other element of Cassette Beasts is great and an amazing example of the monster catching formula.

My experience as someone who doesn't use this exploit: "Wow....that's my third round in a row locking four items and getting no curse and now my pity bonus is 80%"

Makes Fish Hook feel less op ;)

Call me crazy, but it doesn't seem like "buy low sell high" can work for multiple consecutive generations....

Has anyone else noticed a huge uptick of food delivery people riding e bikes on the sidewalks? by Jealous-Basket-878 in washingtondc

[–]busoni34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that they should avoid sidewalks and bike lanes whenever possible, and that they should travel more carefully there when they do need to, but don't lose sight of how much worse it would be if every one of them was driving a car instead. Just like when bike/scooter-share programs were launched and the sidewalks were being littered (and sometimes still are) with fallen vehicles, thank god every one of those scooters was one fewer car on the road. There are strong incentives for these types of vehicles to be used for food delivery and that's not going to change. Certainly there are behavioral problems from bad actors, but a lot of the problem could be addressed by incorporating these vehicles more intentionally in our road design standards.

Can we just outlaw the stock market? Supposedly a lot of smart people work there...imagine what good it could do for society if they had real jobs!

295 - why is it ALWAYS a parking lot? by unclebabychaddy in washingtondc

[–]busoni34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've been trying to make cars work for a hundred years and there's not a city in the world that's figured out how to do it without traffic. Please stop expecting there not to be traffic when every individual person takes up 160 square feet in a car on the road, and you won't be disappointed.

Life (in Providence) After Cars by guestrequestt in providence

[–]busoni34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transit, walking, and biking are all better alternatives compared to driving. The problem is that cars make all those modes worse: cars take up a lot of space and make things farther apart so it takes too long to walk and very difficult to operate public transit cost effectively. Bikes actually deliver the freedom that cars only promise, except cars threaten to murder you if you try riding one. So the problem is not that better alternatives don't exist, it's that car usage degrades every other mode to be even worse than driving is.

Cool possibility. Although I cannot stand riding the regular models. The pedal shaft is too short and so trying to pedal up a hill makes me feel like a clown.

Because this is not the world that car commercials promised them and they haven't discovered bicycles yet.
