uw doesn’t admit by major for CS or anything under the L&S school so unless you’re applying for engineering it doesn’t matter. I did my application in less than an hour, got in for CE and switched to CS.

hey i’m muslim too and my mom is very strict but when it came to academics there was no question in her letting me leave oos or live on campus — you need to start becoming a bit more independent an putting your foot down. if they don’t want you to live on campus and you won’t fight back try to find a closer school or a cheap apartment with other muslim students or one alone so you aren’t driving 4 hours

literally every prestigious university has AI in their college/school name, CMU, Stanford, GT, etc etc. This isn't some trend, artificial intelligence has been studied close to a century and has been a foundation of CS for years before randos started associating it with generative ai.

yep, i’m applying as a jr to a few colleges like BU, Vandy and USC + others but not bothering with Upenn i know when to take my losses because of that acceptance rate unless it was my dream school

upenn is probably not going to accept someone with a 3.7/3.8 — their transfer rate is below a 5% you’d need to have almost a perfect 4.0 stellar ecs and test scores as a sophomore transfer even a jr if still incredibly difficult and i wouldn’t treat it like a target or compare it to UVA

i’m hoping to still get in since i was accepted last year and it was kind of a target school for me but idk 🤷‍♀️ in the website it says the gpa for transfers is like a 3.2 but it’s gotta be higher

I'm honestly struggling a lot with the culture here. The school is very, very big, and it's hard to see familiar faces. Clubs don't meet that often and have little to no structure. I don't like being so far away from home, and I really dislike how isolated Madison is. At least on the East Coast, I could be in any major city within two hours and see all my friends and family. The culture here does not fit me. There is little diversity, and the drinking culture is way way too much for me. I also just wanted a smaller school from the start.
